Ok I tried the first suggestion and it said

"./bin_unix/Linux_64_client: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0 cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory:

So I'm gonna say that it was either the permission thing or I'm missing files somewhere.

Hi All..

I am new to the Linux community. I have read the documentation and still can not find why I receive this feed back when trying to execute.

"error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such files or directory"

I followed the instructions as posted "gunzip, chmod +X, ./saurbraten_unix" Still no good.. A program File Roller was used once as well." Files were extracted to /Documents/usr/lib

Any advise would be a help

I made sure to make:
sauerbraten_unix
linux_client
linux_server

executable binaries.

Any thoughts?

I get the following error when trying to start the game:
/usr/games/lib64/sauerbraten/linux_client: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have a symbolic link from what it's requesting to the current libSDL
/usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0 -> libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.0
And I have a symbolic link for /usr/lib to /usr/lib64

is there a problem with 64-bit and this game/program? Or do I have a libSDL that isn't supported and have to downgrade?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've installed cube on my Fedora 6 partition. When I run ./linux_client, I get the following error:

./linux_client: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The libSDL file is there in /usr/lib.

What am I missing? Why can't it resolve the shared library?

I run sauerbraten_unix as root from the directory I untarred it in, and I get this message:

"./bin_unix/linux_client: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Does anyone know what this means or how to fix it? I'm not really an expert at these things.

When I tried to start the Linux server he said (I wanna support Cube by opening a public server):

when I try to run Cube under Ubuntu Linux. Had it running ok at one time under Ubuntu (before a reinstall) and also under Fedora Core 2. Is this the Simple DirectMedia Layer lib - if so it is already installed!

Hi, I'm having some problems in installing Cube in a Slackware 8.0.
I took the following procedures:

1. Made the download of cube_2002_10_20.zip and cube_linux_clients_2002_10_28.tar.gz

2. Than, in a console root shell (Konsole, in KDE), unziped cube_2002_10_20.zip

3. Still in the shell, made:

tar -zxvf

cube_linux_clients_2002_10_28.tar.gz; mv linux_client bin/

chmod +x cube_unix

cd bin_unix

chmod +x *

cd ..

./cube_unix

Still, I'm receiving the following error message:

./bin_unix/linux_client: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared objetc file: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory

I'm a newbie in Linux, can someone help in sorting out why it is not working?

I received the following error:

This probably means that I need the SDL_image? I downloaded an SDL package,do i use that?

I have a 32mb ATI Radeon card... early version in the series, but it has served me faithfully. ;) Slackware came with a Radeon option when I was setting up XFree, but I am unsure if it included OpenGL. Is there any way to find out?

I just dwnlded the new libSDL
(linux slackware 8.1)
compiled and installed it

I did that because when I wanted to start cube it said

NOW it says:

Anyway, I am receiving the following error when I try and start linux_client:
