Hello all... this thread is for discussing features you would like to see in cube, and in particular those that you find most urgent. If lots of people have the same urgent requests, I may give it priority to be implemented.

Okay, we've pretty much settled on the level of discourse here.

It is so unfortunate that this:

only operates one-way.

I would respect it if he's a European of age 15 or younger. The only place where I speak English myself is on the net, for the rest it's all Dutch and German, so I also practically had to start with no vocabulary and grammatical insight at all, much like most children here that use the net.

#1549: weapon drop, accelleration

by Mason on 11/24/2004 13:25

two major features missing for gameplay:

1) weapon drop(or ammo considerng there is no weapon) when killed in deathmatch, or playstiles that requires ammo

2)accellerated moves:
here when you start move/jump/falling the moves are always at the same rate, but it make the game a little robotic, it would be better a minimum acceleration time, under a sec, for moving jumping ecc.

minor request

footsteps sound, ctf mod

#1550: Re: weapon drop, accelleration

by D.plomat on 11/24/2004 14:07, refers to #1549

1) Unnecessary, because the weapons already respawns *very* quickly

2) There is already acceleration. There is a limit on the max falling speed though (like in reality too).

footsteps sound: there was in Raiden (an old Cube mod), i don't think this adds a lot.

CTF: there is a CTF in Quad

#1551: I got an idea.

by jean pierre on 11/24/2004 14:28

Waterstep sounds:When you step on the top of the water you make stepping on water sound effect and it is good for enemys too and they can hear you too that would be cool.

I consider the lack of footsteps a good thing, you will need to know the map (or your foe) well to predict where your opponent goes, at least this applies for 1on1s.

To increase the friction would take away what cube is all about: fast paced action :)

#1553: yes but...

by Pxtl on 11/24/2004 22:14

I think there may be something to the idea of water sounds - that you make loud splashing noises when running in or swimming on the surface of water. In effect, it would let the mappers choose more about the gameplay - if they want slower play and noisy players, put them hip-deep in water. This is especially good on the newer maps that use water as a "hazard" - that is, the map is all catwalks over a pool.

#1554: engine

by me2 on 11/25/2004 19:21

hey all
i've noticed many of the features mentioned here are denied because CUBE is a "fast-paced" game that would be messed up if the advanced features in this thread were implemented, but remember that cube is not just a game-- is an engine, too. of course sauer is being worked on, but i think instead of just denying many of these cool features, the ENGINE should at least eventually SUPPORT them, so that other games made with the cube engine can take advantage of such features. there could be an option to turn off features that dont "agree" with cube. just my 2 cents :)

#1555: well...

by Pxtl on 11/25/2004 19:46

Cube is an engine for C++ coders to hack if they want to add features. As a game, I don't think its going anywhere - ppl might add new simple features to Cube just focussed on Cube - the game - but anyone who wants anything more substantial is gonna have to code them themselves.

Sauer, on the other hand, I imagine will be more versatile.

I agree with pxtl, and keep in mind, the philosophy behind cube was that Aard implemented what he himself found neccesary with his very own idea of gameplay in mind. Since sauerbraten is a real open source thing, the possibilities are much greater for it to become a little more versatile...
Anything else: C++

Do you have _any_ idea what you just asked for, technically speaking?

#1560: ..

by CK|Davros on 11/27/2004 10:34

yes :-p
I didn't mean it entirely seriously..
but i've always wished it were possible..

If you're thinking every flake would need to stay there on the ground, thats not necessary, a flake landing on the ground could spawn a snow patch, and any flake that touches the patch just increases it's size, patches that touch join up.

But yeah i realise thats not gonna happen soon.
