Cube-TC: ActionCube Public Release (v0.9)

by makkE on 11/04/2006 22:32, 128 messages, last message: 10/17/2007 02:19, 91593 views, last view: 04/29/2024 09:21

ActionCube is released !

After 2.5 years of silent spare time development we are proud to bring the first beta release to the public.
It´s a full feature, complete game, masterserver available.

ActionCube is a team-oriented total conversion of the cube engine, themed in a realistic looking environment (as much as it can get in cube of course). That´s just the theme though.
Gameplay is fast and arcade.

Visit our website:

for downloads and information.

We had lots of fun doing this, and we basically were noobs in our fields when we started.
We learned a lot, cursed a lot \o/´ed a lot, sweat a lot, kicked each others asses a lot; and now it´s finally done.
It was a great experience and we hope you´ll give it a try and have fun.

You might ask "Cube-mod? wtf?! Why not Cube2?"

When we started in July 2004, Sauerbraten was still labelled "for devs and adventurous mappers only".
When the first mature release of Sauerbraten was out a year later, we decided to stick with cube rather than forking off an uncomplete, early-stage Sauer-version.

A port of ActionCube to ActionBraten might be considered at some point in the future, when the Cube2-FPS has somewhat reached a final state.

Some brief info:

8 New Weapons:

Knife
Pistol
Akimbo Pistols (powerup)
Pumpgun
Submachine Gun
Assault Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Timeable HE Grenades

Gamemodes:

7 Multiplayer Gamemodes:

Team Deathmatch
Team Survivor
Capture the Flag
Deathmatch
Last Man Standing
Pistol Frenzy
Last swiss Standing

Bot Deathmatch Singleplayer

We´re looking forward to your feedback.

Mac bins are in the works.

#69: Excellent!

by Morosoph on 11/28/2006 18:16

That is such good news! The game is very cool, even playing for 90 seconds against bots. I'm looking forward to the next release...

Thanks for the game, and the fix!

You must do something about friendly fire.. I went on today after a long period of not playing, and I can see its increased in popularity, and with that comes absolute fucking tards who should not be using computers.

Alot of people will teamkill you just as you are about to get a flag cap, so they can take the flag and score themselves, -1 frags is not much of a punishment for that, they should die instantaneously.

Needs smarter team balancing like Sauerbraten too..

Also flag capture scores are weird along with TDM (this is probably inherited from Cube..) if Joe_Blow comes on and scores one flag cap, then he leaves, then his team has no flag caps again (I think the other team gets his flag cap is he switches too). Same sort of thing for TDM.

Kind of annoying, because I couldn't leave mid-match because I didn't want my team to lose my flag cap points.

#73: Double-Free Fix

by Morosoph on 12/09/2006 01:30

Just wondering if there's likely to be a release any time soon?

Or should I get it from CVS?

Passa, how about friendly-fire turned off for the one player that carries the flag? To make sure the noobs don't think this one guy is cheating a warning msg could be placed in the hud of the attacker.

What about something that allows you to choose what happens to the person that team kills you, for example if they blatantly did it to you, you can choose to have them killed, or you could have an option of forgiving them which you would use if you accidentally shot them first and it was pretty much your own fault that they killed you...

Sounds like BF2 style punishing and forgiving :)

drian, that sounds good, otherwise the scoring is abit uneven then (like everyone would prefer to lose a frag for the TK and get a flag cap point :)

I agree with some comments on the game\'s pace... too slow!

also need bigger levels!

You realize that these comments are completely mutually exclusive. If a game is slow, then bigger levels will make it only feel slower - unless you like holding down the "w" key for 30 seconds at a time.

That being said, I just tried out the "team survival" gamemode, and withdraw my earlier suggestions about a tactical-CS mode. I have to say that "team survival" captures the core feel of CS gameplay - the sneaking, the teamplay, etc. If you just started with grenades and had a good spectator mode for waiting for round-end, you'd be there.

#82: Next Release

by Morosoph on 01/09/2007 18:09

Thanks for fixing the crash bug, >driAn<!

Is there an expected date of release now? It's such a shame to be able to play this cool game for only 90 seconds at a time...

Cool!

My server keeps on disconnecting many clients at once. Is there any reason for that? I usually notice a person from .br (Brazil) connecting all the time...
Also I found some cheating from brazilians too :|

This is because the server does a reverse name lookup of a new client's IP to get the "pretty" version of their host/IP name. This, unfortunately, can take a long time, so long that it times out all the other players.

In Sauer I simply disabled this from happening in CVS, but I guess I should do likewise for AC. It just means you will only see n.n.n.n IP numbers in your server logs instead of hostnames, but the alternative is to have annoying timeouts on reverse name lookups like you're experiencing.

AAh, thanks. I had also made a mod for AC server just do display IP addresses next to the hostnames in case somebody is cheating with reverse DNS lookup. Thanks now - I didn't even know about that :|

I didn't know what the problem was, thank you very much!

"client connected (201-7-65-180.spopa302.dial.brasiltelecom.net.br)
disconnecting client (201-7-65-180.spopa302.dial.brasiltelecom.net.br) [tag type]
" all the time... doesn't this look like somebody cracking/hacking all day long?
