I can safely say nobody has done this.

Ok, great! In case I don't finish it by the next Sauer release, will maps from the current Justice edition be compatible with the newest version?

You bet they are. If you want to, you can even load/import the oldest maps which have been in a release of sauerbraten, into a newer version. The main differences are due the light-octree, outdated script-functions, texturing and model set-up, but next to that there often are not much problems as for the light-octree; running /calclight often fixes the problem.

However, you obviously can't import a newer version sauerbraten into an elder one.

What happens in SVN, stays in SVN.

I finished construction on Pallet town, I still have to do the insides of the buildings. The scale of one "block" in the Pokemon game to one "cube" in Sauerbraten works very well for a realistic size. I'll have to transport the player somewhere for the insides of the buildings, as the rooms in Pokemon are nowhere near the physical size of the outside building. Anyways, here's some screens:

I'll probably upload this to Quadropolis once I have route #1 and the building insides done. I have no plans on adding people or interactions.

I'm no pro at textures, any suggestions? This is my first actual map I've ever made, so I'm pretty much completely new at this.

No offence, but it seems like you still needs some more training the basics of editing before starting on such project seriously.
For now, it's not that bad start, but it's missing lighting and some texturing techniques like texture blending and such.
I know you want to make it look like Pokemon Red, but you could also polish it a little bit up to that (as trying to create a 2D world into a 3D game is pretty though).

I'm pretty curious how you let those monsters actually appear to battle with (and to catch them)...

The signs are a big problem I think. Using a lower gridsize and a pre-made font you could actually print the original content (in an optically appealing way) onto the signs.

For the monsters: I guess with monster ents it will be virtually impossible (unless doing some source modding), but it might be work when you use GUIs and a shitload of cubescript.

Thanks for the helpful info! I'll look up texture blending and see if I can successfully implement it. I'm doing lights last. The world of Pokemon is very evenly lit (except for caves and forests of course) so lighting shouldn't be that big of a deal, if I get stuck there are plenty of tutorials available.

Signs are for the sure one of the larger issues. I did use the smallest gridsize and I couldn't make it fit like I'd like, I might mess around with push/pulling the sides of the cubes (to try to make the text literally as small as possible) or I might try making at custom texture with the text already on it.

I also agree with making the world more polished, although I am doing my best I'm sure that I will get better as I go along, and once I finish the world I will go back and re-do/update anything that can be improved.

As I said before, I have no plans as of yet for implementing people or interactions, and that includes the Pokemon themselves. The one thing I don't want to do is overstretch my limits, I adhere to the "one thing at a time" policy. Hopefully I'm not coming off as rude, I really do appreciate the help, but please keep in mind that for now, I'm only doing the map, no extras.

I did some quick lighting, and wow! The difference is literally like night and day! I'm sure it can be improved by a large degree with some tweaking, as this was just a quickie). Since this is such a big map, I'm probably going to place a "sun" over each town and see how that works out (the whole thing will end up being more evenly lit that way, I think).

I only have one issue, a large shadow stripe on the wall, where there shouldn't be one:

Any suggestions?

lightmap artifact.

could occur should your lightprecision be too high. Or you could try /lighterror 1 and see if it fixes it.

Next to what Razgriz stated, the lighting looks pretty boring because it's all just white (yet there are light-sources, which is nice). What about to bring some colour in it?

Thanks Razgriz, I'll try that and see if it fixes the problem.

I'm not really sure what I would do for color suicizer01, I'm basing this off Pokemon which in turn is based off of (pseudo-)reality, where most light sources are white.

Although, I suppose it would be a really neat idea to have different subtle colored lights coming from things such as PokeCenter/PokeMart awnings/accents/logos, Gym logos, screens, and various streetlights in larger cities. I'm thinking of making a couple of the larger cities night-time cities, that will give me a lot of room to play with colored lights and neon signs. Regardless, thanks for the input, I'll see what I can come up with.

Try removing init.cfg config.cfg from,

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Sauerbraten

Thanks! I started a blog, it should be updated about 1-3 times a week, depends on how motivated I am.

I'm not going to continually update this thread with my progress, but I'll probably stop in now and then with questions.

The binds on Z and U are [undo; passthroughsel 0].

Undo is obvious, but what does passthroughsel do?
