#4756: no level editor

i just installed the game on mac but the level editor isnt there in the main menu. can anyone help me?

The "level editor" is not a separate tool. It is implemented right into the game as it's own custom game mode.

Go on "bot match", set the bot amount to 0, then go on coop-edit and chose any map.
Do not save changes to existing maps, that is considered cheating and servers can automatically detect it.
Use E to toggle between normal playing mode and editing hover mode.
While you hover, you can use /newmap 10 to start an empty map to begin with. Mapsizes go from 10 to 16.

Also, if this whole botmatch clicking is too complicated for you, open the chat (T) on the main menu and just use /newmap directly. It will drop you right into editmode.

its just that ive seen gameplay videos where there was an editor right in the main menu

Going by the release date of the video and the fact that the server browser has no buttons at all, it seems that this guy is running an older version of the game.
I guess the button was ditched in favour of direct /newmap and the uniform botmatch option.

Self explanatory; I want to create my own custom monster that I could place in edit mode. While digging through Sauer's files I saw the monsters are animated using the old Quake 2 (.MD2) file format.

monster models and logic is hardcoded ;P so you have to replace an existing monster, or dig through the source code and add a new one.

#4762: Suboptimized map polygons?

I am trying to use Cube 2 because it is the best 3d map editor ever made. But the thing of it is, the meshes are suboptimal. When I enabled Wireframe mode I can see it. For example, I will make a cube, but the cube will be subdivided into 200 polygons instead of 6. I click Optimize and it only reduces it to 30 polygons. I would like to use my Cube 2 maps in other games but the way it saves Wavefront objs. it doesn't reduce the polygons. Is there a command to reduce the polygons to the most optimal? The optimize button doesn't optimize fully.

The most efficient command to optimize geometry is "/remip".
Commands like "/calclight" do the vertalen same, but also calculates the lightmaps (if existing), while those aren't stored when exporting in .obj and .mtl (only geometry and texture-assignments are).

So try that before exporting to see if it works out better.

I clicked the Menu Optimized button, is that the same as /remip? Because it if is the same, it won't do me any good because the Optimize button just reduces the huge amount of poly's to a medium amount.

If it is not, thanks for the help and I will see what it can do.

I cannot seem to figure out how to put an elevator into a mesh. When I assign an elevator to a model it just dissapears. I can do teleports and jumppads just fine, but elevators cannot assign to a model.

Optimization is not a mircle worker, yes it is the same call as remip or if you do a lightcalc or save, remip gets called a lot to help reduce the size of the map

@eleveators
The model disappears because you are in the wrong game mode. type mode -2 into the command then type map YOURMAPNAME this will set it to sp (single player mode) coop mode is by default a multiplayer mode and elevators barrels monsters etc do not exist in said mode so they will stop rendering and just have a entity box.

PS: if you map is modular (like rooms or small passages ways) try using pvs (this is basically a way to set artificial portals [if you wanna know more just google pvs]). If your map is open space with out defined modularization this will help hardly. to make this jsut type genpvs (it is like light calc so do it sparingly [probably when you are done or nearly done because each edit will de-validate large potions of the pvs], also it takes a long time as well probably around 2x the time it takes to do light calc, at least generally speaking).

When editing maps in Cube, I always miss some features from Hammer. One of them is being able to easily add trims to blocks, so I can do stuff like this:

Hi there.

Because of the problems Sauerworld is having right now, and the fact that i can neither register nor re-create my account on quadropolis, i have to post my new map here.

The map is called "Helligsted", with a kind of "mystic-holy-nordic" setting. It's a very small, performancefriendly duell map. There are only a few ents, simple editing, and low wtr.

Beside weapons and health, the map contains 1 Healthboost, 1 Quaddamage, 1 Yellowarmour and 1 Greenarmour.

The map looks better with glare set to 0, but of course this is optional.

the download via google drive will contain some screenshots, to take a look at it, before downloading, if you want.

I really hope you enjoy the map,
of course i will have an open ear, for suggestions how to improve it.

#4777: can't change ceiling side-wall textures

Hey guys, i recently discovered the Cube engine and i fell in love with it, since i'm a level editing fanatic i instantly went to level editing, i got used to it in a short time and i it's really fun, however, there's this problem that i can't solve, i tried changing the texture of the side(s) walls of the ceiling, i spammed HOME/END but nothing happens, i couldn't figure it out, so that's why i thought i should ask for help from you guys.

I also posted a video if you don't get what i am saying and just for more context (ignore my bandicam watermark i forgot to register it).
Also, DON'T click the link if you don't trust me and think it's a virus.
