#84: minor things...

by cowboy on 01/13/2004 16:13

as in master server list:

d154-5-57-117.bchsia.telus.net 119 125 unknown ww

no, i certainly don't have 119 people on my server, and my timelimit is 10 mins, not 125 :)

also, it's running a valid map, not 'unknown'

it works for clients well enough from what i can tell, and registers with the server fine too:

sending request to wouter.fov120.com...
masterserver reply:

Registration successful.

however, on the actual in-game browser my server still shows up as running on an incompatible protocol, even though i built it concurrently with the client i'm connecting with.

also, in my autexec.cfg i have 'bind q backward' which is the only bind it doesn't take. is this a preset for something else?

Keep going through this...

Q, Z and X are for mousewheel editing.
Q is also mousewheel zoom.

" is this a preset for something else? "

In the autoexec are some lines:

bind D right

...skip forward a dozen lines ...

bind Q [ domodifier 1 ]

... I move E to 5, Q to Z, etc.

you can't use unofficial clients or servers with the official master server. You'd have to make your own.

#88: it is official

by cowboy on 01/13/2004 18:22

i built it from cube_2003_12_23_src, it's unmodified, and as far as i know the same source used to make the distributed binary.

are you saying i must use the distributed binary? i'm afraid i can't, it crashes all over the place.

it's not, please read the readme that comes with the source code.

If it crashes, you probably are using some old libraries in your system. I can't help there.

#90: no-auto-switch maps

by Pxtl on 01/13/2004 20:42

One of the changes to cube I've seen that I like are the no-auto-switch servers. I've logged on to a few, adn they're fun - that is, when the round is over, the server seems to switch to the most supported vote. This is awesome if you've got a server full of n00bs who are too green to use the map vote feature, so you're stuck with 20-player instagib on small maps.

The problem is what happens when the match ends and nobody has voted - players join and play, while the players who saw the end window are stuck at the end screen (they can still vote a new map, but if they're dumb n00bs they won't). I know this is kind of a "don't care" state of Cube, but it seems a particularly bad state to be in. I've seen some severely b0rked servers 'cause it was full of n00bs who didn't get this feature. Hell, I'm not sure I fully understand how the non-randomizing servers work exactly myself. I've only briefly been on a few. Still, nice feature.

This is a known bug in the server.
For the time being, at least
godzilla.uib.no installed the fix
if you know the admins of other servers, it would be cool to contact them so they install the fix too.

#97: Problems with multiplayer game

by Calor on 02/02/2004 14:41

Hi 2 All

I have downloaded the last zip version from sourceforge but when I join a Server that seems there are another players; I\'am alone and there is a clone of me (if I kill him I also die).

I\'am using Win98SE.

Time ago I played without problems a previous version (single and multi modes).

Any clue what\'s happening?

Carlos

It's a server problem, you need to play on one of the server's that has been patched to get rid of it. Cant remember of the top of my head which ones these are at this time tho.

You should try a download manager. I've used the one from Netscape ( http://www.netscape.com -- no you don't have to use Netscape browser) although I couldn't get a later one to work and my first install seemed to work only after I uninstalled it! But there are others, Getright rings a bell. Anyway I've gone up to 160 MB over several nights.

gamespeed will confuse the game, don't use it. If you get this no shooting problem without touching gamespeed, its a bug.

#101: "patched" severs

by staffy02 on 02/02/2004 23:58

some of the servers that claim to have installed the bugfix still appear to have the same bug.
and is it normal for the pj and ping of another player to stay the same for a whole 10 min game.
