Bug Reports

by eihrul on 09/03/2008 01:41, 1175 messages, last message: 12/31/2023 08:39, 929347 views, last view: 05/18/2024 11:52

Please post your bug reports in here.

With your bug report, please submit the following information:

1) OS: Your operating system, i.e. Linux, Windows, or otherwise and what version you are using.

2) 3D card: The 3D card you are using. If you do not know, this is printed on the "Renderer:" line in the console when Sauerbraten starts up.

3) The edition of Sauerbraten you are using, i.e. Assassin edition, CVS as of a particular date, or otherwise.

4) Error information: If you are on Windows, a pop-up message showing filenames and line numbers should show up when Sauerbraten crashes; if possible, post a screenshot or a copy/paste of this. If on Linux, post a log of the startup info from the console, including relevant errors or any info you might have discovered. If on MacOS X, please post the crash log if applicable.

5) A description of the problem and how to reproduce it. Please give as much detail as possible on how someone can recreate the problem, in as certain terms as you can. If someone else can't reproduce the problem, it is unlikely he can fix it or tell you what is wrong.

#585: leak?

by HartZa on 08/05/2010 10:24

When I play Sayerbraten (Trooper edition) and try to change weapon or edit by scrolling the mouse wheel, There appears a message \"unknown command: universadelta\". My friend has experienced the same problem with his Sauerbraten (Trooper edition)
I have Windows Vista.

#587: Cancel my Bug report.

by TomCat39 on 08/06/2010 18:22

If you haven't done so already cancel my bug report.

After some dinkering around with BIOS update more than Sauer started rebooting the laptop. After reverting to 189 NVidia drivers that Toshiba provides for the laptop, and reverting the NVidia HD audio drivers to Toshiba provided all other games went stable and I will deal with the Sauer reboots as they come, assuming they still will happen.

Sauer uses NVidia Driver version 3.1 with the 189.xx drivers while the latest 258 drivers used Driver 3.3 and gave me serious issues all the way around.

Anyways, it looks like it's a Toshiba Driver issue not playing nice with Sauer. So kind of doubt it's a shader bug or rendering bug etc.

So if you've been pouring over code and not seeing any bugs that fit, you are probably just humoring me for no worth while cause.

Thanks for your time.

#588: I feel oh so very swift!

by TomCat39 on 08/08/2010 04:06

If someone ever reports Sauer rebooting in Windows 7, tell them to check sauerbraten.exe properties and make sure it's NOT running in compatability mode.

For whatever reason mine reverted to being in Windows XP service pack 3 compatability mode.

I remember I tried that when I first got Windows 7 and it cuased all kinds of grief. Now that I have Sauerbraten running in normal mode and not compatability mode, I'm willing to bet my mysterious reboot problem goes away.

I don't know why my install reverted to a way old setting but it did. And now it's back to being proper and all should be well.

So if you are getting some seriously weird behavior, check the exe file properties, it may be incorrectly set to run in compatability mode and that's just not good for Sauer. ;-)

#589: Skip in trak5 textures

by foota on 08/11/2010 22:10

OS: Windows 7
3D card: ATI 3600 series driver 10.1
Sauer version: Justice
Screenshots of problem:
http://i35.tinypic.com/14xf6yr.png
http://i38.tinypic.com/2wex3yr.jpg
To reproduce the skipping/offset of the textures just choose one of the trak5 textures and texture a wall of cubes with it, as far as I can tell this only happens with the trak5 textures.

that's the shader line. it happens on all textures which use normalmaps and the such to render depth. its prefectly normal, and the line goes away when you've calclighted (assuming there is a light).

#592: X freeze with some maps

by francois on 08/17/2010 18:08

Ubuntu 10.04
intel 4500 hd

The game freezes and the X server die (I need to restart) just after loading some maps : arabic, campo (and maybe some others) (multiplayer, regen).
No problem with other maps, no bug.

#593: Windows 7 + Ubuntu 10.04 +fglrx = complete freeze

by Rosine on 08/17/2010 19:22

1) Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 (both 64bit)
2) Radeon 4670 (Catalyst 10.7)
3) Justice
4) none
5) In both OS sauerbraten will crash/freeze after some not foreseeable time in that way that the complete system freezes (only grey screen). Can't ssh into Ubuntu nor switch to console and after reboot there is nothing in the logs.
Temperatures seem to be ok (51 degress celcius <-- card is passive cooled).
Problem does not happen with the open radeon driver.

by Rosine on 08/23/2010 21:30, refers to #593

I tried a bit and looked in the forum and found the following: the crashes only happen if I enable "shaders" in the gfx-menu. Without the games runs rock solid.

So... where could be the problem with enabling shaders while using fglrx?

There's really no way to know. I had recently fixed some issues in Justice edition, so if you were using Trooper edition you might encounter similar problems, but not in Justice. Was this in edit mode, maybe?

No edit mode. I am only playing insta CTF and can reproduce this crash every time. At least while shaders are enabled.

I play version sauerbraten_2010_07_28_justice_edition.

#597: ..

by SheeEttin on 09/05/2010 06:50

Here's something interesting.
I just upgraded to Kubuntu Maverick (from a fresh install of Lucid), and tried Cube 2 to test out DRI2, and found that sometimes, I can see through walls.
http://i51.tinypic.com/j08uf9.jpg
(That's not static, it flickers with the frames.)

Here's some output:
Renderer: Mesa DRI R300 (RV530 71C2) 20090101 TCL DRI2 (DRI R300 Project)
Driver: 1.5 Mesa 7.8.2

Probably a bug in the graphics driver, though.
(Also, I don't know what zpass is supposed to fix, but it doesn't fix this.)

Sure enough, graphics driver bug.

#599: Freezes after playing one map

by Mozenrath on 09/21/2010 11:13

1.) Linux Mint 9 Isadora
2.) Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
3.) Justice
4.) N/A

The game plays perfectly when gameplay starts. When a game ends and changes maps, suddenly the game becomes incredibly slow to the point where the only way to get out is to wait for the cursor to move to the menu to close, which takes a little while. When I restart the game it's fine again, but once a game ends and switches maps, the game becomes completely unplayable. No crash; just very very slow.

#600: xp reboot

by Zyx on 09/26/2010 02:38

i have windows xp and when i try to play justice edition my pc reboots after about a minute or of gameplay

@Mozenrath: Do you have any compositing window manager or screen saver or something like that? I would maybe try switching these off while playing Sauerbraten and see if this helps the issue. I know Compiz and OpenGL games in general seem to have issues.

@Zynx: No idea on either of these issues at the moment. Sudden reboots are most often caused by overheating GPU, especially on laptops, as Sauerbraten can run at extremely high framerates relative to modern games. Possible workarounds to try are to enable vsync (vertical sync/sync to vertical refresh/whatever it is called in your driver) or from the Sauerbraten menus, which will force it to a smoother lower frame rate which can avoid overheating.

Its happaning to my brother too. We use the same version and install but his screwes up, He cant scroll the ground or anything. I fixed the same problen with the guns but i can do it with scroll.
He doesnt have config.cfg so i tried sharing it and put it in his sauer directory. Played it...
No luck, Im dissapointed because this is the only page that has something about this. Redownload from a different source? Mabey i should try that. Any way, if you find the answer please email Aidan@firstfive.co.nz

#604: Small cubescript compilation bug

by tempest on 10/03/2010 18:17

The newly added (to SVN) compilation function (great feature btw!) seems to contain a little bug. In the "about" menu, instead of http://sauerbraten.org it just says http:

Really not much to worry about, I just thought I'd report it anyway.
