Just out of interest (due to a discussion I had lately):
How fast is the computer use to play Sauerbraten? Or more specifically is one of the big reason why you play Sauerbraten that it runs nicely on your low spec PC?
Contribute like this please (as an example my system):
------
OS: Kubuntu Linux
CPU: Core2duo @ 2Ghz
GPU: GeforceGO 7700 with 512MB
Mem: 2GB
Res: 1440x900
Reson for playing Sauerbraten: Runs on Linux and has a nice old school gameplay !
------
Please contribute as it would be really important for future development to know what the target hardware base of the core fan base is.

I feel like posting my specs because I can.
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 3800+ running OC'ed @ 2.5GHz
RAM: 2Gb Dual-Channel DDR-400 RAM (wtf, I know, but surprisingly not slow in games whatsoever! Seems like DDR still does it's job!)
Gfx: 8600GT w/ 512mb RAM
Soundcard: X-Fi XtremeMusic (sounds good enough using OSSv4 drivers on Linux, awesome on Windows)
OS'es: currently using Windows Pro x64 (my gaming OS) 'cause GRUB seems to have been overwritten and I can't boot into my Ubuntu 8.04 x64.
HDDs: 500Gb SATAII Maxtor...or Seagate... can't remember
160Gb IDE Maxtor, used for keeping all my valuable stuff (music, documents, photos, htdocs etc.)

GPU: 2x nVidia 8400 GS cards, imitating SLI with split frame rendering. 512 mb memory each.
Motherboard: nVidia 680i LT SLI MCP
Sound: Onboard sound for above motherboard
Harddrive: 360 GB Seagate SATA drive
OS: Ubuntu x86_64 Hardy Heron 8.04, in the process of getting dual booting set up with Winblows XP
OTHER: Samsung WriteMaster DVD+CD/RW drive
ULTRA xWind CPU fan
2x generic case fans
ULTRA power supply which, somehow, doesn't fit properly into the case, which is designed by the same company. Using duct tape and a pebble to keep it in place.

My Laptop (where I usually play):
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (NO, I do NOT have any problems with it, at all :)
CPU: Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium T2310, 1466 MHz (11 x 133)
GPU: Adaptador gráfico Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (320 MB) (Oh god it sucks for OpenGL)
Mem: 1GB
Res: 800x600
Reason for playing Sauerbraten: Runs very badly on Windows due to Intel's crappy OpenGL support, so the only reason for playing right now is CoopEdit. I wish we could have an option to switch to DirectX on Windows :/
PC:
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1.7 GHz
GPU: NVidia Geforce FX 5200
Mem: 1GB
Res: 800x600
Reason for playing Sauerbraten: On this PC? Not unless my sister wants to play it :P
Dad's Laptop (the best):
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo, maybe 2 GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeforceGO 7300 with 512MB
Mem: 1GB
Res: 800x600
Reason for playing Sauerbraten: Runs at a constant 50 FPS with most options maxed. And of course, the game is excellent :)

Reason: The gameplay is great and runs on max settings without any lag whatsoever.

Out of the box standard black macbook:
OS: Mac OS X 10.5.4
CPU: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
GPU: Intel GMA X3100 (Built-in)
MEM: 2GB
RES: 1280x800
I crank everything up and it runs really smoothly. I can't seem to turn on shaders however. I loose all textures and get a lot of image ripping on what does appear.

That\'s just sad, your Macbook out performs my MacBook Pro with an 8600m :/
It would seem Apple\'s nVidia drivers are no more than disguised software renderers!

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
2GB DDR2 800MHZ RAM
nVidia Geforce 8400GS
160GB Seagate HDD
Resolution 1440x900
FPS Average 59-60
For some reason I get higher FPS at this resolution then I do at 640x480.
Reason I Play: It's a great game and I don't see the point buy other games at the moment.

OS: Kubuntu 8.04 / XP Pro SP3
CPU: Core 2 duo 2.16 Ghz but I leave it at 1.00 Ghz.
GPU: nVidia Geforce 7900 GS w/256 MB VRAM
2GB DDR2 667 Mhz
Res: 1920 x 1200, but I play at 1440 x 900
FPS = 100+ typical, but for some reason when I join some servers it just craps itself and drops to like 7 or 8.
Reason for playing: I don't have to reboot into Windows, and I love the chaingun.

Hi, i hear that Sauerbraten does not require the greatest hardware specs so i decided to try it out, but whenever i get it started it always drops immediately to 1 FPS. I'm quite the noob with computers so i was wondering if anyone could explain/suggest a fix to this. My ancient hardware specs are:
OS: Windows 2000
CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
Memory: 512 mb
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon 9000 Atlantis Pro

No, you just need to tweak some settings. Your video card is a bit old to handle the fancy new shader effects.

Win 98 original
Athlon 2000+
GeForce 2 integrated
HDs 4 and 80 GB
Compared to the PCs I started gaming on: supercomputer
Sauer: poor to awful
And if or when I upgrade it won't be for reasons of one game, sorry. I'm waiting for the next advance after Windows, mind-control computing or whatever ;)
