Sauerbraten hardware census

by Julius on 08/29/2007 15:27, 140 messages, last message: 10/27/2008 15:01, 127676 views, last view: 05/19/2024 00:00

Just out of interest (due to a discussion I had lately):

How fast is the computer use to play Sauerbraten? Or more specifically is one of the big reason why you play Sauerbraten that it runs nicely on your low spec PC?

Contribute like this please (as an example my system):

------
OS: Kubuntu Linux
CPU: Core2duo @ 2Ghz
GPU: GeforceGO 7700 with 512MB
Mem: 2GB
Res: 1440x900

Reson for playing Sauerbraten: Runs on Linux and has a nice old school gameplay !
------

Please contribute as it would be really important for future development to know what the target hardware base of the core fan base is.

Isn't that just a little too much information?...
Sudden idea: support for sudden motion sensor in Mac Sauer release... dunno what you'd do with it... smack laptop to /kill?

@a_baby_rabbit & dfdjfhsdkjfhdsjkfconorhfjdshfsjk:
Both G4 iMacs, too? What a coincidence.

OS: Xubuntu

CPU: Athlon XP 2.4+ (2.0 GHz)
GPU: Geforce FX 5500
Mem: 765 Mb ddr
Res: 1024x768

Well there was a small problem with the board so I had to downgrade the system :(

CPU: P4 1.8GHz
GPU: Geforce FX 5500
Mem: 512 Mb sd
Res: 1024x768

Runs good! (without all the fancy GFX stuff, but still looking good)

Interesting to see so many mac/linux users.
After I got the gfx-drivers on Linux to work I don't need Windows so much myself anymore.

2960x1050 screen? wows. not a typo? xD

lap:
intel 945 / 950, 1280x800 LCD
intel core 2 duo 1.73ghz, (sauer is faster at 1.73ghz than at 800mhz and the driver calls itself "mesa-intel" or similiar... hmm!!!)
1GB DDR2 ram
Kubuntu 8.04, KDE 3.5.7, GNOME installed
sauer is very playable at 1024x600 or so :D

desk:
GeForce 6600 256mb, 1280x1024 CRT
512mb DDR2 ram
amd athlon x2 4200+
(silky smooth 60fps 99% of the time, obviously)

reason for playing sauerbraten: fast, best FPS i know, the latest release is AWESOME, free&free, open source.

I have a laptop
OS: Gentoo Linux x86_64
CPU: Core 2 Duo @ 2GHz
GPU: GeForce 7200 Go 128 MB
Mem: 2 GB
Res: 1280x800, though I play 1024x768 windowed with maxfps 30 to keep temps down

Reason for playing Sauerbraten: It's funny now that I think about it, but I bought this new laptop with Sauerbraten as one of my reasons in mind. :) Started with editing since spring, hooked on regen capture since summer, still fun to edit :)

Forgot to mention that I was introduced to Cube back in AP Comp. Sci. class (2003?) and had a few frag fests during lunchtime. Ahh, those were the days :) Sauerbraten didn't come into the picture until early 2007 when shopping for aforementioned laptop.

GPU: Geforce 9600gt 512MB
Mem: 2GB
Res: 1440x900, 2xAA, 4X Aniso.

OS: Win XP
CPU: Athlon 1600+
GPU: Geforce 3 ti 500 64 MB
mem: 512 MB

Res 800*600 , Shader turned off (sauer doesn't handle 1.0 shaders).

Reason to play Sauerbraten:
Because I like the edit mode, I like the fps, and as SB is an opensource project, it gets better and better, unlike a commercial game that doesn't evolved anymore after one or two add-ons.

I have to update my specs just a little, because I just got a 22" monitor after a two week vacation, so I now play at 1680x1050.

Ok... enough epenis-ing.

This thread was started because I was argueing with Eihrul about MD5 support. Now that I won (YaY! :p ) there is really no point in keeping this thread alive.

I think it is interesting to see what everybody else is playing sauerbraten on. It should also help the developers understand where the majority of users lie in terms of hardware.

For some reason, sauerbraten always looks best on my oldest computer from 2001. Maybe it is the display or maybe it is optimization, but sauerbraten looks better on that old clunker than it does on any of my other much more powerful machines.

Hi:

Sauerbraten worked great on comps with nvidia cards, on anything else it didn't work for me. Well part of the reason is that i love nvidia, so everything else is crappy.

So:
1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo
GPU: Intel 965M
FPS: Perfect at 1280x800(laptop)
Problem: water effects: none! water is very crappy

2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64
GPU: Geforce 6150 M
FPS: perfect at 1280x800(laptop)

1.8 GHz AMD Sempron
GPU: Ati xpress 200
FPS: really crappy at any resolution(below 6 fps)

1.8 GHz AMD Sempron
GPU: geforce 8400 gs
FPS: perfect

2.2 GHz AMD Athlon
GPU: geforce 6200
FPS: perfect

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
4gigs OCZ DDR2 800 Dual Channel memory
