Cube-TC: ActionCube Public Release (v0.9)

ActionCube is released !

After 2.5 years of silent spare time development we are proud to bring the first beta release to the public.
It´s a full feature, complete game, masterserver available.

ActionCube is a team-oriented total conversion of the cube engine, themed in a realistic looking environment (as much as it can get in cube of course). That´s just the theme though.
Gameplay is fast and arcade.

We had lots of fun doing this, and we basically were noobs in our fields when we started.
We learned a lot, cursed a lot \o/´ed a lot, sweat a lot, kicked each others asses a lot; and now it´s finally done.
It was a great experience and we hope you´ll give it a try and have fun.

You might ask "Cube-mod? wtf?! Why not Cube2?"

When we started in July 2004, Sauerbraten was still labelled "for devs and adventurous mappers only".
When the first mature release of Sauerbraten was out a year later, we decided to stick with cube rather than forking off an uncomplete, early-stage Sauer-version.

A port of ActionCube to ActionBraten might be considered at some point in the future, when the Cube2-FPS has somewhat reached a final state.

Very nice modification!!
I tried to play some of the game and it is really nice, except that the speed is kind of slow for people ;) and the bots still walk in random directions, even on the best skill mode!

Overall - I'm amazed!

Just spend two hours or so chillin with bots (because the servers are EMPTY :)

For v1.0 get bots to use knifes, I added bots to last swiss standing and it became quite a massacre :D

Lets get some organised online meetings happening :)

drian: strange weapon switching and reloading bugs. Randomly if I was switching about and reloading, the reload time would become instantaneous. Kinda weird, muck around with emptying a clip of your primary, switch to pistol, fire some rounds off, then switch back and reload and its instantaneous (or something like that, the process might be slightly different.)

It'd be nice if we could specify the ports we want our server to use, so its possible to run more than one server on a box and IP.

Its something Sauerbraten has always lacked :)

I am having trouble starting ActionCube after starting up Windows XP from hibernate. I get a messages box saying "Unable to load program (0xc0000005). Click OK to quit." (roughly translated). Does anyone else have this problem?

It really is a good mod with nice maps, however, seems I`m too much used to sauerbraten since AC`s gameplay is too slow for me. =)

This is a great mod! I've only been able to play it for 30 minutes, but here's some feedback:
* It took me a while to figure out I could configure my player (team, weapon) using the menu. How about a message mentioning these options when the player joins a game?
* The grenade physics didn't feel 'right' to me. (I'm used to RTCW/TCE nades.)
* Too bad this isn't a sauerbraten mod. :-P ;-)

How about reading the readme? :P

The odd grenade physics eventually grow on you. Lol I'm more dangerous with a grenade now that with a shotty or smg :)

Once 1.0 comes out hopefully everyone can advertise it everywhere and it will increase in popularity. There just aren't enough players at the moment.

Most people skip the readme. :P A game should be obvious to play, no readme should be needed.
