with i810 drivers i can get some shader-like effects in Linux like water reflection(?) and item shadows :)

i notice i have the same problem that i did on linux - occlusion _is not_ working! (being I look afrom the corner of a map into the middle and although theres the same amount of geography that should be rendered [there are walls in frost of the rest of the map], my FPS plummets to 5 or less from 30 or more.)

i remember hearing something like this from wasda:

I know most of the guys on here aren\\\'t a big fan of his but: he has a good point. Sauerbraten is quite demanding, and occlusion culling is important!

I think its the first halfway sane weapon related suggestion I've seen posted here in some time. Though, 50-60 damage seems a little high, as it'd be really easy to spam with a high rate of fire. If it was more like 35-40 or so, it'd be nicely between the shotgun and the machine gun.

hey, im running assaultcube (not saur) on a mac with mac os x. when i try creating a server it says something like \\\"didnt respond to ping-check your firewall settings\\\" or sumthin along those lines. even when i completely turn off my firewall it still says to check my firewall settings. any suggestions? email me at capncrunch9233@aim.com or AIM capncrunch9233

It means your firewall is blocking pings. Try turning off ICMP filtering.

It needs the high damage to distinguish itself from the machinegun, which is much easier to hit with. Think about it. With the hyperblaster, you have to lead the shots almost like a rocket. The machinegun has no such limitation, thus, it needs high damage AND a good ROF.

Machinegun:4 hits, 120 damage.
Hyperblaster: 2 hits, 100 damage.

See?

The other option is to give it a good rate on armor. For example, the railgun deals half to armor. Why not make the hyperblaster useful in that it helps one bypass armor? Like with a 70% penetration.

You've obviously never seen me use the rocket launcher :). I'd also say that the grenade launcher is close to that particular scenario, on a good day I have decent odds of hitting someone with two grenades for ~120 damage.
So, say you made it 40 damage per hit, made projectile rather then hitscan, and made the projectile speed quite fast, with a flat trajectory. Additionally, you'd want to give it a fairly large spread, almost as much as the shotgun, to limit it to fairly short ranges. With some rate of fire tweaks, it would fit quite nicely in with the other weapons.
Keep in mind, with the formula I outlined, it'd be 3 hits == 120 damage, which is actually alot more powerful then the Quake style hyperblaster.

only other fps I ever played was duke nukem, blood and shogo. I have no idea what quake weapons are like.

but idea of spraying fire like a flamethrower is what I had in mind.
ultra high rate fire grenade launcher with fireball for graphic instead of shiny-ball-thing..lower damage and explosion radius

leaving out the Q2 "hyperblaster" (or the Q1 super nailgun, or the Doom/Q3 plasma rifle etc etc) was done on purpose. In each of those games, it is always the "spam" weapon, the weapon people resort to in close-medium range with no skill required. All the other weapons in the game require a certain level of precision, timing or tactics.

It be the easiest change ever, it would take at most 3 lines of code to add a player-shootable fireball. But I don't want it in for gameplay reasons.

WE need a nail gun/ like minority report game and crackdown. With ragdoll physics as well, the results are quiet entertaining. Dead players are flown through the air and stick to walls. It doesnt add anything to the "action" value of the game but damn is it funny,

Somone should also make a code where bodies do not sink down and disapear. would require a really good computer for this. Like in a bf1942 mod where there were 100,000 server tickets and bodies stayed in the same stop after they died. It was berlin too so the entire map was full of dead bodies. It was the funnies thing ever but caused massive laggy action .
