#5646: Re: Problems with rotating cubes in Sauerbraten Shader Editi

by MeatROme on 05/08/2006 14:35, refers to #5645

I agree :)
ReadTheFineManual is always time well spent!

@copy/paste : I would like to see some form of "buffers" implemented - meaning a separate octree to work out the details of a single building-block and then paste it into the "real" map ... but I guess you can work around that with a "building stuff map" of your own.

But I'd also appreciate if you could view a simulated paste before actually commiting it, since I've had occasions where I copy/paste and then rotate a very large block and that messes up the whole map.

In the end I mostly paste to rotate somewhere where nothing get's hurt by it ...but in more closed in maps this is not viable ... and even so, if you misjudge the paste-position by one cube on a large clipboard-entity sometimes undomegs won't help you recover.

All this isn't crtitcal but I thought I'd mention it - maybe others feel like I do?!?

Here you can find several diffrent zoom scripts to add to your cfg.

Yes there is a manual in cube/docs.

by spirit on 05/09/2006 20:38

is there a config file that cube reads and if so, where is it located under linux?

if not : is there any other method to invert the mouse?

Read the manual please.
The config file resides in the /cube directory. It´s pretty self explanatory.

#5654: Ladders

by headwound on 05/11/2006 00:20

Question:

I have played ladders.ogz and find the novelty of vertical movement a bonus for mapmaking. I have also explored the directory for the map and the docs for Sauer yet I find no information or scripts to implement ladders in maps of my own. Can someone shed some light on this topic? If you can't join a low ping server and be prepared to be fragged!

Look at those ladders closely ;) Technically they are just very steep stairs.

#5656: Re: neon kill me sign on my head!

by Pxtl on 05/11/2006 23:18, refers to #5656

NOOOO. It's the best feature of the game - makes it more personal then trying to associate a model/skin with a name. When I play Sauer, I actually know who's who. I don't get that in other games. Plus, the +10 healthboost is still being playtested, so it's important to see if any player is hitting +100 or if the feature is overpowered or anything.

Maybe if the opacity of the text was the lighting average of the model, or it was invisible if the model wasn't visible, or something complicated like that (all of those are hard to do).

If you like stealth, play one of the Theif games or something...

Just on the names on the top of people, I have a different idea, could they possibly be MORE obvious? Larger maybe, and in red, considering the other players are enemies. Also in capture, shouldent allies by blue? At the moment they are red, and this is confusing newbies. And with names in capture, maybe make the teammates names green (the current colour) and the enemies names red.

Also on capture, I think there are two problems plauging it,
1. Lack of players
2. Newbies

The lack of players should improve but newbies can't set teams, they can't chat, they can't be identified with a name like unnamed or anything... its very annoying. maybe you should change the windows installer to show the readme after setup, no choice given. for mac and linux users, they are normally smart enough to work it out themselves.

Just as a thought, if crouch were implemented, the tag could disappear when you crouched.

It has some shaders now, that can slow down older graphics cards.

Do this:

Right click on sauerbraten.bat
select "edit"
in the file add "-f" at the end of the first line.

This turns off pixel shaders.

In case you´re on linux, you prolly know how to pass a command line parameter :)

It might be a good idea though, to impelement crouch(it wouldn't be a priority to do it) and have it make your name disapear. I would like to see this, but I'd like to stress that its not a priority, cause we know that aard is a very busy programmer :)

sorry, this crouch and hiding is against the gameplay philosophy, so won't be supported.
