#3485: Yeti3D

by Aardappel_ on 10/24/2004 01:22

is not based on the cube source... it just uses the cube engine design, but is written from the ground up.

#3488: ambient lighting

by skittle on 10/24/2004 23:36

Does anyone know if there is a way to brighten up a map without filling it with light entities, and not with the fullbright? Im making a lare outdoor map, and filling the entire thing with light enteties not only takes forever, but also shoots my Wqd through the roof. (10,000 +!) Any suggestions?

Large lights, lower brightness if needed, very few different values. High fog brightness (fogcolour 0xFFFFFF etc. -- black fog sucks light). Mostly you have to factor it in -- limit visibility, size.

also, out in a lot of poles and walls and such to cut down on how much you can see at once, as well as less stuff you have to light (make pillars leave a shadow)

put up the fog level to make the wqd less in your map.

#3494: Setting resolution on OS X?

by griffman on 10/26/2004 15:53

OK, I have the OS X package working, after downloading the required SDL files. But it's running at 640x480, and I know my machine can do better than that.

I've read all the documentation, and posts here, but I cannot figure out how to change the resolution. I clearly can't use the cube.bat file, as it won't run on OS X. And I can't use the Unix startup scripts, since I'm launching a GUI app that doesn't seem to accept any switches, as far as I can tell.

So how *do* I tell cube to launch at 1024x768 on OS X?

Thanks;
-rob.

by griffman on 10/26/2004 16:11

I give up -- how do I set the startup resolution on OS X? I've read all the documentation, searched the forums here, searched with Google...

Cube looks like a lot of fun, but I know I can run it at better than 640x480...

#3496: Open source? Is the community *REALLY* involved in da engine

by WhiteLyon1 on 10/26/2004 20:28

Last release was in may, almost 6 months ago, It seems we have many game dev people but who is really working on the engine?
Or are allw aiting for -Aardappel- to update and fix all? Or is there really an open source project here?
(when can we expect the Cube 2/ Sauerbraten updated?)

its an open source engine, not an open source project. in other words- feel free to make changes and add stuff but dont expect it to go into the main release. This is aard's project and he has his reasons. And im too happy with my free game to complain about it :)

by Pxtl on 10/26/2004 21:23

Cube is Aard's baby, so he doesn't incorporate other people's work. Whatever your feelings may be, that's his prerogative. If you want to see versions of Cube with more stuff in them (like CTF or whatnot) look into Quad, or the new Cube with bots.

#3499: So ur saying......

by Lavaball on 10/27/2004 14:58

That Saubertain wouldn't have a .exe to start the program easily or Batch Program it must require coding to be started and never accessed by us non-programmer's seem's it is Top-Secret for Crying Out Loud.

#3500: no...

by Pxtl on 10/27/2004 15:16

its cause it doens't really do shit yet. This isn't some "ivory tower" elitism - its just 'cause its not friggin' ready for playing, so nobody but a coder has any use for it. Its not worth the trouble to make an exe.

You sure have a short fuse. Why do you act/talk the way you do? I have always found this forum filled with polite people willing to help. Your attitude is not very welcome.
