New game based on Sauerbraten - Teleport

by djRobbieF on 07/24/2006 03:04, 55 messages, last message: 10/30/2006 07:21, 24926 views, last view: 05/05/2024 02:13

I've begun developing Teleport; a new multiplayer first-person shooter using the Sauerbraten gaming engine.

At this point, it is still VERY young, but with our dedicated team of developers, it won't be long before we begin releasing playable demos.

To read the storyline and view screenshots, and to just find out any general information about the project, please visit http://www.blog.djrobbief.com/?cat=2

If you are interested in participating in this project, I'd be happy to hear from you, too! If the story grips you and you have something to give of yourself to this project, please drop me a line.

Thanks to the whole community for making this possible! Sauerbraten is a wonderful, configurable engine, and I look forward to giving back to the community with our programming efforts.

its not that "I see it that way". I am giving you friendly advice on how the world works. If you have a team then great, show us what you have made and maybe more others will get excited too.

djRobbieF, Arad is not trying to be mean. He's just responding this way because you are one of like 200 people who will get on here and "announce" their game. lol

We'll all accept this "announcement" more when you give us some “screnny-poos”. :-p

ive read the backstory and it all seems very interestin. I have but one question.

How will teleport be better than saurbraten? Just list a couple features to help us understand where this game is going. Because to most of us it seems like a map pack and new models.

Hahah, yeah, so I've heard. :)

Well, we're not trying to be "better" than Sauer; let's get that straight just in case someone says *I* said that - lol. It's just built *using* the Sauer engine.

Basically, it's simply a very focused project. The proposed feature list is a little bit secretive right now, but just know that we will have multiple player models, improved gameplay and character animation, and a real hardcore focus on old-school deathmatch / LAN party-style gameplay.

The story is well thought-out, as you know, and the story is not "just" a story; it's our template for how the game will work.

Believe me, we'll give you some hot screenshots as soon as we can. I'm trying to figure out a way to do AVI shots (so I can show you all some videos)... but no success yet creating a 30fps avi from the game. Any suggestions?

Try to use /maxfps 30 while recording, should work better.

Thanks for the suggestion, makkE - but what I actually meant was, is there a good program, or method to do the actual recording? I have been testing with screen capture programs... they seem to work fine at any framerate, but because I have to run Sauer in "windowed" mode (not fullscreen), I tend to have trouble with the mouse controls when the mouse steps out of the window... So I'd really love to find an effective way of recording to video files while in fullscreen mode.

Still open to ideas :)

you could try fraps(google it), but it only lets you do 30 secs of video recording at a time...

Thanks! I'd have to install Windows to use it, it looks like... but may be worth a try if I can't find a good solution under Linux. I'll bookmark it, thank you!

Você deve tentar afixar na linha direita vez seguinte e inglês falando. Você não deu bastante detalhes para que qualquer um trabalhe para fora de o que está indo erradamente. Pode você afixar alguns retratos do problema?

Thanks TorQ. In fact, xvidcap is the one I've been experimenting with, but it seems to lag severely if capturing full-screen.. so I've been doing it in a small 320x240 window, but the mouse issue kinda sucks :)

I wish you could just pipe the video :) haha.

I'm wondering if I should just run an s-video cable to a second computer and just dub it in as DV...

Run it in Windows with a registered *cough cough* version of Fraps.

Fraps is fantastic trust me, much easier than using 2 PCs.

Alright cool. I guess I'm inevitably going to have to do regular compiles for windows anyways for the various devteam members who are on ... *cough cough*, as you say... Windows. ;)

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, the software LOOKS fabulous from their site. Too bad it won't run under WINE ;)

I'll give it a go asap.

That just put me to an idea - what about buying a TV capture card with S-Video?:) Would be quite awsome.

Its sad that there is no good GLX/SDL video capture software on GNU/Linux :(

Cause I was searching for video capture possiblity ^^ Sauer ;)

I\'ve made a demo with Cube 1 and now is there any way to actually render it as avi or something? I doubt that it would be possible without modifyng the source ^^ :)

Play the demo back with a program like Fraps recording it.

I record stuff all the time with Fraps, but its hard to record + play at the same time unfortunately.
