Hi shocktrooper, Ian here. I have been trying to email you but your email seems to be down. Can you email me or post an email adress that I can reach you at.

Maybe here, but I guess only the finished works:
http://www.quadropolis.us/

I'm not sure if people visiting that site wants to see incomplete models.

Best thing would be to join the irc channel (#sauerbraten, quakenet)

Posting here is fine too.

#24: 3d modeling

by Eris on 09/30/2007 18:32

Hello me and some buddies are going to make some models for a game of ours.

But now I need to know how we can do skeletal animation, and perhaps use this for ragdoll.
Can this be done with 3d studiomax? Blender? or some third party application?

I know nothing about this subject, any help is welcome!

you can use all you want, biped in 3d max for example, or manually if you preser. The md3 archive only get the diferent positions of vertices, not the skeletal.

I dont think we will be using md3.
But thanks, I hope that we will get the corpses raggin\' and roling!

Sauerbraten only suppoerts MD3s.
Though if you want to contribute code for handling skelletal animations and rag-dolls you are free to do so, I guess :)

But to be perfectly honest... ragdolls are comletely overrated and quite unrealistic too.

I totally agree. The human body acts nothing like that when it's placed under those circumstances.

Not that I would know... >_>

This is true. But artistic styles can be realized with such tools.

but ragdolls are just so much fun.

While they are sort of usless now, in the future they will provide much better looking animation in games. Ragdoll alone isnt very good but when combined with a nervous system its great.

The endorphin middleware is really cool... but it is much more than just a physics simulation and ragdolls.
And besides... it costs a LOT of money too :p

its not a game engine, its a physics/nervous based animation system.

and it costs so much mostly because the company has to custom build it for each game.
