More Sauerbraten suggestions

I posted a bunch of sauerbraten suggestions for the editor UI, AI and weapon scripts under "Most Wanted Features".

another idea came to mind: the ability to manipulate the location of mapmodels by selecting them and holding "M" and using the mouse wheel for height; mouse movements could move it on a 2d plane -- holding "R" while a mapmodel is selected could use a 3d trackball effect to rotate the model, with the mouse wheel resetting its rotation to 45 degree angles. if the middle mouse is pressed, it could do the other axis

I did read the docs- sorry for the mispost - you are correct Aard. Anyway, we are removing it hopefully tonight. I will post new screenshots as per his request.

Aard, I noticed a strange problem when changing the pistol sound effect..I couldn't change the name of the file for some reason without the samples getting messed up.

#70: level bug :(

by Mad Merv on 04/07/2006 14:37

i found a level-related bug. for some reason one copy of a level I have crashes when loaded in "New Game", but not when loaded in a different mode of the editor. It crashes while loading a mapmodel... i've changed the file that the mapmodel points to several times and it seems to be more random, now crashing on a different mapmodel while loading the level what are sauerbraten's memory limitations when it comes to mapmodels?

the level is rather complex geometry, i'm wondering if there is a way I can salvage it... :/

of note, it seems to also crash after the mapmodels have been successfully loaded, right when the player materializes at player start

i reduced the display resolution to 640x480 and it loaded and worked fine, just seemed to be a memory-related problem when displaying at 1280x1024.. any ideas? Aard, would you like a copy and my machine specs or something?

ok i uploaded new versions at the url:
http://www.madmerv.com/spam

Please review the screenshots; also, included in spamassassins.zip is a map called SPAM6-BROKEN.ogz and spam6-BROKEN2.ogz which are those wierd level edit bugs that created crashing levels.

make available to me the level in question, and an EXACT description of what I should do to make it crash. I will look at it.

There are no fixed memory limitations, pretty much everything in sauer only depends on available system memory.

OMG 118MB lol

could you please start releasing patches as well cos most people will chew up their downloads pretty fast

this is not officially released yet, so no patches I'm afraid. Just dissect it.

it won't be available for much longer, we're seeking funding from an outside source

Aard, if you don't have the mapmodels from the latest version (many are changed) you can't view the level. Please download the .zip, the level file is called "spam6-BROKEN.ogz" and is in the packages/base dir; when i load it at 1280x1024, it crashes during loading, and sometimes after.

Yes. Passa, these guys are doing alpha stuff here. So don´t ask for patches. That package is for those intrested, not aimed at a wide audience.

The shots look good. Intresting concept and it start to come together. :)

did you ever run the map entirely with only original sauer md2's? to verify that the problem is not malformatted data?

Is this in a modified engine or the original one? If its modified I am not going to debug it, its just too hard to know if modifications people make affect the stability of the original code.
