Hi,

here is some free textures to use in your maps.

3 models too so far...

this is a work in progress... feel free to use what ever you want in your maps...

included is a test map.. it is toaly playable, and quite nice looking.

you can copy and paste the textutre names from my mine2.cfg file to your map files, to make the textures and models appear in your map.

oh good point, unless you were to replace an older texture pack with stinky taco's one. but then this would break compatibility with older maps :(

hello stinky_taco!

nice job on the map. i'm not really a MP player, but i like to see what others have made. the textures have a cool "old skool" look, reminds me a bit of duke nukem 3d and some early user made Q1 maps. this is a compliment!

thanks for the textures, i'm sure i'll find use for some of them in my sauer sp map i'm working on. (i assume it's ok to use some textures?) i'm using mostly textures not found in the sauer/cube release.

stinky_taco, mitaman:

For maps that are intended to be added to the distribution, care has to be taken that they only use textures that WILL be in the distribution. Though some of the textures used in this map are nice, certainly not all of them are up to the standard I have for the existing textures.

Taco, it was you that called his own map "really cool" or state how your wacom makes your textures "look so good" so you shouldn´t be surprised someone will take a real close look to see if it´s all really as professional as you claim it.
I agree my critique wasn´t all that humble, but the attidude you seem to have towards your own work isn´t either.
You simply asked for being picky.

Hi all,
The map was never intended for the Sauerbraten full version, nor was this texture pack... it is neat that some people are even concitering it is of that quality, it is a great honor, and will make so I do more work on this project in the future. It is also a great honor that some people want to include them in their independent map packs and mods. As stated above all of the artwork is free to use as long as you follow the license. you don't even need to keep them all together... Mix them and match them if you like. I still intend on collecting them all for a mappack, so if you are inetrested... let me know :)

Saurbraten already has many great textures. perhaps in the future I may attempt a map intended for the distribution using stock textures. If that ever happens there will be lots of pre-planning.

All this was intended for was alternitave textures and models for people to use freely.
Perhaps an independent Map pack in the future.
If the Sauerbraten team wishes to use some/all/none of them, they are welcome to do so also :)

I have recently done a bit of work on the map. Thanks to makkE's suggestion's on the lighting and texturing I had decided to make another version. I bet it will be lots of fun at LAN parties, and perhaps online if anyone decides to serve it. Will post some screenshots later on, and the next version of the map.

The next map will have some lighting models, and trees included, that everyone is free to use.

@ Aardappel ,

Wow, thanks man, even if you find only 1 of my textures of some semi-quality it is a great complement.
It inspires me to make them better, thank you :)
Thanks again for sauerbraten too, it is a cool game engine we all seem to enjoy here :)
As stated above you and your team are more than welcome to use anything you want.
Please feel free to request anything...

@ makkE,

All I said is that you where mis-useing the word humble.
I appreciate your input :) and I hereby thank you again :)
Please don't misunderstand me and fall off the deep end friend! :)
Please also excuse my high self esteem, I like my artwork, and when I think I make something nice, I usualy call it cool. Please do not let this offend you so much, it was never my intentions. I was just excited to share my gift with everyone.

Feel free to call me stinky. Taco, and MR. Taco are way too formal, we are all friends here. :p

Ok, small misunderstanding here, sorry.
I already guessed it might just be your enthusiasm.. I usually say "this was fun" or so in such cases, makes it sound more neutral ;)

Hi all!

Ok here are all the screen shots :

And here is the updated texture-pack...
http://s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/mine2.0.zip

Going to try my hand at some animating later on tonight , perhaps some decoration modeling too.

Found a wonderful discovery! I can copy geometry from one map and paste into another!
Sorry for begging about Pre-fabs , guess the copy and paste does cover every thing :)
This will make it nice! I can build my map in small bits, and test out lighting! then port the pieces over to my main map after every thing is done.... it will save massive amounts of light map build-time while I test out lighting with geometry I make. (Lighting does not copy and paste over)

this will get me to Doodle more with Sauerbraten geometry... getting excited t see what I come up with :)

Have a nice night everyone!

Thank you for the nice complement.
You can use them in commercial game maps to... just as long as you don't make money with them (If you want to make a commercial game let me know and I will sell you some nice stuff).

after reading some of your messages in the forum, I would like to politely add:

You, or any one else may not use them in "hate" games. I don't want them used in any racist games.

I don't want them used in games that bash Gay people either.
They may not be used to bash retarded, religious, or cripple people.
Actually, if the game/mod has any religious promotion at all in them, you may not use my textures to help spread filth.

IMHO games are made to be fun. it makes me sick to see them selling products, or pushing hate.

I wish you a good day :)

by stinky taco on 03/14/2006 06:18

hi all!

Did a few more models for this project :)

http://s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/newaxe.jpg

and

http://s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/Sword.jpg

the blade of the sword will change soon, I just got done painting some nice patterns in Zbrush.

I also have modeled a polearm, and a crossbow. will be skinning them soon.
I will post some pictures when I get them looking nice .

I will be attempting a suit of armour next :) I will use Zbrush and the Zsphere modeling tool.

All of the castle textures are going to get an overhaul too.
Going to make them look a bit more dirty.

Thanks for looking,
have a nice night everyone :)

Hey stinky,
The models look great!
Are they going to be hudgun models or map models?

reply to this message

#65: map deco

by stinky taco on 03/14/2006 08:32

Hi Passa ,

I need to get my blender MD2 plug in working before I can make Hud-guns.
I have sent an Email to the Author of the exporter... just waiting on that really.

The above models might be made into Hud Guns in the future.... If that happens I will re-skin them to make them look different. (plus remove some of the unseen geometry to lower the poly-count, might add hands too if that is required.).

I have no patience for Misfit modeler or Milk-shape animation system.

So for now, they are just to complement a map I am planning.

The new map will be Goth quake3, mixed with Hexxen :p
should be an interesting multi-player arena.

This texture / model / map pack, should be ready for others to use in a few days from now.. the map will be in a couple of weeks, as soon as I have enough nice Decorations :p and the textures fixed a bit more.

Thanks , have a good one!

Had a few minuets this morning.
Here is the Picture of the Polearm that I promised.

#68: sword 2

by stinky taco on 03/14/2006 23:09

Hi,

here is the sword again, with a bit more complex pattern on the blade.

http://s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/sword2.jpg

I plan on doing a different sword soon. one with a few more polys.

I would like a more rounded blade where it meets the hilt.
I also want a more elegant looking handle .

#69: new sword

by stinky taco on 03/16/2006 17:43

Hi!

Had a bit of time yesterday, so I modeled a new sword.

This sword is a bit more dense than the last but I think that it is worth it for the looks.

This sword is 182 tri-polys when whole, if made into a hudgun it will be exactly half of that.

The first skin is ornamental....
http://s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/sword2skin1.jpg

The second skin, I wanted a steel look to it.
With all the grey, I feel like it needs some other color to hi-light it, but I could be wrong.

http://s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/sword2skin2.jpg

I finally got my Knotts-3d program running in windows X-64 so now I can generate Celtic knotts in 3d.
the 3D knotts are nice in Zbrush, I just have to flatten them, and they somewhat look like engraveings .

I may go back to the axe and polearm and re-decorate the skins with engraved knotts rather than the painted on ones.

Another nice thing about using the 3d knotts is that when making normal maps in Zbrush it will pick them up as a 3d bump rather than just leaving them painted on.

anyways, hope you all like them.
have a nice day everyone :)
