Sauerbaten multiplayer gameplay

by Aardappel_ on 01/31/2006 00:28, 117 messages, last message: 03/02/2006 15:01, 83698 views, last view: 05/05/2024 15:30

This thread is meant for discussion of recent sauerbaten multiplayer gameplay enhancements.. there will be a new release today, and should be suitable for extensive multiplayer testing.

Some of the highlights sofar (read history.html for details):

- sauer masterserver
- "mastermode" cheat prevention / server privacy
- gameplay balance and feedback changes (additional graphics)

After testing, please comment on the multiplayer experience on this thread. Also, suggestions for further improvements are welcome, though I'd prefer to hear about improvement to existing features, or how we can improve the feedback/feel, as opposed to the usual "I want weapon X and game mode Y from game Z"

if anyone wants to get it working in the meantime the 77.72 drivers work fine.

They didn't actually ever give me an email addy, they want the developer ( you, or someone that knows the engine well ) to join the "Registered Developer Program"...thats where I bailed out, since I know shit about programming. I got that far by using the support forum.
I see from reading up about this on the developer site, they obviously expect developers of engines to find bugs for them. I suppose thats not an unrealistic request, since they make one driver set, as opposed to hundreds of game engines that people expect these drivers to work with.

BTW, the 78.01 set works too...my problem is, I have a couple new games I like to play that are really effected by these "old" drivers' performance, so as it stands now, I'm constantly rolling back/forth my drivers.

Damned if I'll do without my new games, but I cannot stop playing/editing sauer either :)

nvidia shouldn't accommodate games, they should just obey the OpenGL standard. If they do that I won't complain.

"Thank you for submitting your application.
We will review it shortly and email you if you are approved."

So lets see if they let me in :)

i hope all goes well.
stupid steam recently updated the source engine so that Half-Life 2 does not work with the 77.72 drivers... dammit i hate switching drivers! is there a way to switch the driver without a reboot?

Windows Vista might be able to do that. It would be quite a trick though.

i dont see HL2 on linux so HA! btw is this bug for linux users as well?

and btw, what is the best 'first time linuxer' distro? im pretty new to linux and i just got a shiny new 10gb partition for it all ready.

btw i was scrolling through textures with the 81.98 drivers... OMFG that thing on the side with the textures is soo cool. that was a great idea... who thought of that? also, the texture stretch thing is only on some textures so mapping isnt that bad. also... why is this problem only in sauer? cube runs fine.

Use ubuntu as a newbie distro would be my suggestion.

That's Cegeda, it's a fork of Wine.

Cegeda is directed at emulating DirectX

ok Kurt and all, I am now an official nvidia registered developer, and have access to special tools and most importantly, the bug reporting feature.

They want quite a lot of specific information in the bug report though, so Kurt, if you still have the bug, talk to me in irc to produce an exact description.

#112: other than the bug...

Well, it's very easy to reproduce, and I'm certain anyone with an nvidia card, running version 8 forceware drivers ( linux included ) sees this problem...it's very ugly -

Just tell me what you need to know Aard, I'll do whatever I can to try to help.

is it on all nvidia cards with the 8 series forceware drivers or just the 6600GT models.

It's happening on my 6800 ultra. There were some others that mentioned they've had this problem too...I should have kept track of what cards were having the trouble.

kurt, talk to me in irc. I will fill in the bug report form with you present, so I can ask you the random facts they require.

To switch drivers without a reboot you need to install the new kernel and X driver modules, close X, remove the old kernel module, insert the new kernel module, restart X.
