Cube & Cube 2 FORUM

Remove the player tilt when looking up/down.

by mukkan on 09/04/2005 12:57, 29 messages, last message: 09/09/2005 18:32, 4133 views, last view: 05/03/2024 05:46

I was wondering how I could remove this, where abouts in the source and I find this function. I would prefer if the models didnt tilt.

Thanks in Advance,
Mukkan

I do not see the forum primarily as a database of facts. I find Manuals, FAQs, and Wiki's are much better suited for that sort of thing. If you have problems with the way the manuals et al are handled, then the solution should be directed towards fixing them, rather then subverting the forum towards those ends.

The forum is about living, transient and topical discussion. Not singular isolated facts. Using full threads for things that need less then a few replies, results in a forum with a huge amount of threads that people need to shuffle and sift through. which, is not a whole lot different from the general thread now. However, what would get lost in that shuffling are the true living discussions... the primary purpose of the forum.

to morgaine2,

The whole "air" of this forum lately has been a real turn off to me. I usually only post on this forum with "useful stuff" (and sometimes the dumb question), but I can't resist any longer.

I think if you want to gain the respect of most of us CUBERS you'll have to show us what you can do. Give us a bit of improved code, make a mod, make a model, make some textures, a map, something besides talking about how this or that can be done better. Show us what you can do better, don't tell us. If your not willing to contribute why are you here?

Perhaps some of the "older" Americans (like myself) remember an old Deputy Dawg cartoon from years ago. His most famous line was: "don't go away mad boy, just go away".

If everything you do earns you abuse then there are two possibilities:
1) somehow a fps game attracted a community of jerks who don't like you for no reason
it's not worth being a part of that community
2) somehow you managed to piss off an entire community of reasonable people
you could figure out what you did to offend these people and try to salvage the relationship, or just abandon them entirely

You decide for yourself.

couldn't have said it better myself pushplay. Though watch, he'll have an option 3 where the earth is flat.

A lot of people bend reality, but this guy makes it surreal.

the problem may not even be WHAT you say, it's the way HOW you say it... and the annoying style, how you insist on knowing the one and only solution for whatever is the topic... you seem to be unable to accept anyone else's point of view.

please stop talking about what you can do and just show us some working examples.

perhaps make a mod (or fork, or whatever it's called) and show what you know, please. if what you make is good, people will use it.

enough talk, contribute, make something. no more words please. if you can't provide or are unwilling to show some sort of working examples you have no right telling anyone how to do something better. actions speak louder than words.

make something of your own (moving mapmodels seems like prime fodder for this) and then make a thread about it. talk about that code technically with whoever is interested, and above all else listen to what aard says is fitting. choir boys don't argue with the pope. get yourself at least to priest or missionary status by making something new and interesting, and then talk specifics about it, in a polite and humble way. you don't see me arguing with makke about how he models, or me arguing with Nashaii because of how he maps (actually, i do argue with Nashaii, just not on this forum).

why are you unwilling to SHOW US what you can do? i'm beginning to believe your all talk and no substance.

when you first joined this forum i thought to myself: "here's a guy with some cool ideas, can't wait to see what he can do". now i feel your just full of hot air.

i had even tried to email you a while back to welcome you here (fake email address is posted) because of your ideas. i'm thankful the "welcome" email never got thru.

the majority of "old timers" on this forum have contributed maps, models, music, configs, pieces of code, etc.. some were good, some were not so good, but they CONTRIBUTED some form of media to try and improve / enhance the game.

I'm willing to give anything you MAKE a try, until then your not going to gain my respect on this forum with clever techno-bable words and references to what a good engineer you are.

PLEASE, prove me wrong and make SOMETHING. even if it's not accepted, you will have tried to contribute.

psh. my religious pursuits are completely and utterly seperate from computers. perhaps a better analogy would have been the beggars at the doors arguing with company management- at least be employed by the company first.

if you specialize in engine code to the exclusion of everything else, why not make some test code and come up with your own specs as to what's best. it'd be very informative if someone actually did jerryrig and test a portal system, for example. from there technical discussion would be the most natural thing in the world.

just as a parting shot, comparing Aard to the Devil is hardly mature behaviour- it's even worse than calling cube "newb code".

So, you are afraid to submit something for fear of rejection, while you are being ostracized for not contributing enough. That is a poor excuse (and a pretty hopeless attitude IMHO).

I've contributed plenty of things that weren't even close to the quality I've come to expect from makkE, pushplay, DCP, or the other major content creators (In fact, I doubt that my best stuff was even close in quality to their worst failed experiments).

However, I contribute what I can, and a certain amount of respect comes from that. If you want to work on coding THEN DO IT. Pick something that you want to change/fix/add about sauer, code it, compile it, and post it. I assure you, Sauer is NOT off limits.

If you follow my suggestions, I can't guarantee full and immediate acceptance, but it will definately start some kind of technical discussion.

Do these things, and if all else fails, you will have earned my respect and gained an ally.

>>The Sauer/Cube developers don't reject data - but if you try to contribute some code, you just get called an idiot and asshole

I don't think that's the reason that you were flamed. If I decided to post a map on quadropolis that, say, was a 23 mb recreation of my city, I don't think that it would go over well (I'm reminded of jeanpierre's TR2 mappack :shudders:). But this would not be for incompetence like jeanpierre, but just because it does nothing to help sauer.

However, if I magically pulled whatever little C++ I know out of my ass, and made a rudimentary occlusion culling system, regardless of the fact that it would be really crude, it would probably be better recieved by Aard than your coding ventures. You don't just say "Hey, that would be cool, I'm gonna code that!", that's what mods/forks are for. You do something that is important to everyone, and right now, that means doing the crappy, boring type of coding for the engine that noone likes to do anyways, because it involves just making things work right, which is a pain in the ass.

It's the same thing with content providers (whether you believe me or not). I don't really want to finish my new sauer map, because there is no design left to do. I just have to light the damn thing, which is a time-consuming pain in the ass (especially in a building map like mine where three stories are virtually the same - once you've lit one floor, you don't want to bother with the others.) But these things have to be done - I certainly can't release the map as-is, yet adding another clever architectural detail would just be procrastination. Either way, I still have to get the boring crap done - pushplay won't light it for me, and don't expect Aard to do the same thing for your code.

ooh, well said. i especially like the bits about map procrastination, that's pointing straight at me. burn.

be reasonable morgaine, if you submit another bit of code it'll probably be better received, so long as you do it in good faith. Aard is not unreasonable (well, his humor may be a bit strange at times...), and neither are the other people here, such as wasda. we just all have a sense of pride that has gotten attacked, and some are faster to get over it than other. shelling up and saying "it's not worth the effort, i know it's going to be so and so" is basically like eating candy, getting a sour first bite, and never touching the rest of it, even though everyone else swears that it's sweet.

i need to lay off the analogy's don't i? i guess i'll get back to work on my branch of content...

Ok... enough.

At first I thought you were just hilarious ("I'm an engineer".. classic), but your robot-like clueless responses are really littering this forum too much, and the signal to noise ratio is suffering. Most importantly, quite a few community members which I respect are very pissed off and are posting less because of you, which breaks my heart.

So I am going to ask nicely, just once. Please leave. The exactly 1 person who can stand you can communicate with you through other means, use email, or maybe you can all start an EDM forum or something. Everyone else is annoyed with you. Have some dignity and just leave.

There's a good chance you will ignore my request... and I really don't understand how anyone would want to be part of a community that almost unanimously dislike them... I personally would have been long gone.

I personally think activities like banning are very wrong (free speech and all that yadda yadda), but there comes a point where even I can be driven to such nastyness. Lets not have that happen.

so now we have a 'stalemate' situation or what?

you claim to have written the original code, without any comprehensible proof.

aard and eihrul say they rewrote it from scratch and came to a solution that just LOOKS a bit similar to yours.

and you seem to have a serious problem to take into account that such parts of code for specific problem just CAN look similar, even if written by different people.

and i can't remember to have read aard calling you asshole or idiot literally.

so what are you talking about here over and over and over???

Quit wasting my time and do it in another thread dipshits.

Would have been nice if just ONE person posted somthing relavent to this thread but nooo.

You would be all banned by now if I had admin for the simple fact you all ruien every thread on this damn forum.

It\\\'s a pain in the ass and you all are bad as each other.
