get it from: http://strlen.com/sauerbraten/
This is the first release that makes sauerbraten a usable engine, now that it has gorgeous lighting (thanks eihrul), and much of the old cube gameplay works again. It is still a little rough around the edges and requires more optimisation, but it is very interesting for developers, mappers (we need more playable & pretty maps!) and even players (MP & SP work).
This thread is for feedback on the current release from a mapping/playing perspective, for reporting bugs and technical discussions use the other threads.

Taking a look at the screenies and stuff, it looks nice. Sadly, I'm on 56K and don't want to do a 20MB download until I'm certain that it will work with the shitty "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" chip that's built into my laptop...
Also, how well would multiplayer over 56k work? I assume that's where most of the fun lies...

Well, it will "work", but not very well...
No occlusion culling is up and running yet on sauerbraten which means that the larger and more detailed a map, the slower your card will run...
On my Radeon 9000, alot of the maps run ~80 FPS, but on alot of them, I get ~30 FPS too, if that helps you to decide.

erm, that is it _should_ "work"... not will. I can't guarantee that it will work... heh

Playing cube/sauer on 56k isn´t great, but by far the game that does best at it. A game with 3 opponents should be no problem to play for you, given your connection remains stable.. 5,6 and more clients usually make gaming on 56k impossible.
When everything´s fine (stable connection, few opponents) you won´t really notice any diffrence between you and the lpbs.

Jean: Would you mind slowing down?
I know your like 12, and you probably have ADHD or whatever - but you should really think before you type. (and please use punctuation INSIDE of the post - not just at the end).
Honestly, you're the only person I know that could make my head spin while reading a frickin' web board!
And in case you just skimmed over this: SLOW THE *#&@ DOWN JEAN!!!

I never swore. I just used symbols to show my frustration.
So unless you have a program that automatically puts in swearwords, then I don't know what you're talking about.

Listen: I didn't say F*** you, I said slow the F*** down when you type.
You've insulted enough people on this board with senseless posts, and yet complain about being insulted more than anyone else here.
And DON'T reply to this post - I don't like having to spam Aard's site with senseless posts explaining to you why you keep getting banned!

I doubt you'll see any "final sarerbraten version " anytime soon, however, I do expect you'll see a LOT of releases with a constant growing list of features. The current version is far from just a beta anyway. You can play dm and sp with it, edit maps, etc, and it's very stable now.

It's a mod of it's not good enough for Aard to want it in the packaged releases.
Sumbit it to Aard as an offering for the next release to replace the olc cube weapons ;)

Fireball, I was answering a question to sauceofallevils, I could not care less if the weapons ever change.
If you're saying to him " replace them yourself ", I'm not sure what you mean. If he can come up with a weapon that fits sauer, then why not at least see if Aard would want it in the game?
If you're telling me to replace them, well I don't care about them ever changing :)

I really don't like the jumping physics right now, too slow, too high and no strafe jumping. I guess this is the point but i'm not a fan.

#199: monsters not dying, and development |

Hi,,,
in my neat new map the monsters dont seem to die.. and after some are dead they slide around on the floor and still attack... this is -2 SP and -1 spdm mode..
I am also getting a bunch of cracks all over the place... I can see the skybox right thru the level geometry in tiny little pinholes and cracks. is this a sign of me being off the grid? or have I reached my poly limmit?
also.........
I am a experianced modeler and mapper.. been doing it for a verry ling time now (half life 1)
I would like to donate some mapping models and weaponds/scenery/monsters...
perhaps to a MOD team, or to the official engine team. (whoever asks first ;) )
this game engine is very fun to map with!! I want to use it to teach people verry basic video game design... this is perfect!!! they dont need to compile anything... no BSP.. only lighting!
well anyways, I want to help development who do i talk to?
Thanks :)
Sloppy..

I guess you can say I am good...
it is all in the eye of the beholder IMHO :)
http://www.s91842597.onlinehome.us/NEWGALLERY/NEWGALLERY.htm
those are really High poly models, and just doodles at that...
you can see a couple of low poly weaponds I did there... (shotgun,mp-5, baseball bat with nail stuck in it, new age battle axe (well used)...
anyways... guess I will reply to your Email... perhaps i can whip out a couple of your requests...
