please share your configuration tips

Maybe this has been discussed, though a search didn't come up with much and I have yet to read the 3000+ posts in the general thread (just finished the mapping thread after 3 days).

I've been playing with Cube for only a couple of months, and so far have only a few handy edits to autoexec.cfg:

// toggle weapon visibility
alias showweapon [
if (= $hudgun 0) [ hudgun 1 ] [ hudgun 0 ]
]

// switch to and fire rifle with middle mouse button.
// On release, switch back to another weapon.
bind MOUSE3 [
weapon 4 2 3;
attack;
onrelease [ weapon 1 2 4 ]
]

// Zoom in
alias myfov 90
bind E [
fov 20;
onrelease [ fov $myfov ]
]

// Apparently there is no undo for the delent command.
// This is a confirmation for delent.
bind KP_MINUS "showmenu delete"
newmenu delete
menuitem "delete entity" "delent"
menuitem "cancel" "echo"

In reply to Tentus:

Why not learn to read. Do You know what turning means, it is not side to side You dumb SOB. This is a help forum, HUM, with answers like this, I wonder.

As far as future games not having the ability to bind turns. Well like I said before DOOM 3 and Half-Life 2 both have that feature and Quake 4 will have it to. Now, You can\\\'t tell Me these games are old and out dated, and Quake4 is not out yet.

So, if anyone could help Me out, I thank You.

OCC is a clan that is only 7 months old but most of the 31 members are ex IROQ members that have been playing games for at least 10 years and makeing maps for at least 5 years, Myself, I have made over 220 maps. How many have You made Tentus. So if experience is a question, do We have it. LOL

it was a reading error: i assumed you were asking a question that is common enough, which is how to change WASD to ESDF or RDFG, etc. Every day we get someone asking if they can do something which to me seems dead obvious, because i'm used to making changes in cfg files, but they aren't.

>>Myself, I have made over 220 maps. How many have You made Tentus

220 sound like an exageration to me, but ok, i'm fine with extravagant numbers. If you would "learn to read" you might come across the fact that i've been Modding cube since August, which may imply that i know how to map too.

i'm still waiting for a handicap that lets you play PC games but won't let you use the mouse.

anyway, as morgaine pointed out, config tips. for fledgling mappers,
http://www.hypersolutions.org/images/rgbhex.gif
gives a hexadecimal table which can be easily used for finding a fitting fogcolour. just remember to put the 0x in front of the number when you type /fogcolour in your map cfg.

how have you managed not to notice that almost everyone in the forum is laughing at you most of the time? Aard said it himself, he keeps you around because your remarks are so hilariously wrong.

the reason you'ld want the hexadecimal chart, as i said in my comment, is to find the hex code for fog color. so when you type
/fogcolour 0xCC3300
you get a good red fog. this means you don't have to sit around in cube for hours trying to find a shade that you want.

@ Morgaine: it's not available in cube or Sauer to the best of my knowledge, it may be something worth including in the next release. yet another UI feature :)

Aard should have made a chart becouse all those numbers make me mad/frustrated when i want to make a foggy map(like a graveyard)

Again tentus opens His mouth, puts foot in and chomps down hard.

Tentus, go to www.ourcrazyclan.com, look under maps, You will see about 150 of My maps, NO EXAGERATION!! They are listed under ViPeRPiT. I have made maps under two names RK and ViPeRPiT. Exageration, I think not. I also run 2 Quake2 servers for over 5 years, maybe You would like to check them out to. I don't lie or exagerate.

I don't want to get into a battle of words with You or anyone. If it takes an apology to stop this now, I will offer an apology now. Sorry I called You a dumb SOB.

All I did was ask a question about handycaped people and turning with the mouse and You started, So of course I started right back. You should watch what You infer in Your answers.

I didn't mean to imply that you or anyone was inferior, handicapped, etc, though that may have been what you inferred from my comment. Sorry, it was poorly worded on my part, and could have been more forgivingly said. However, you should be a bit more careful what you infer into my answers- my intentions were not hostile or agressive in the least.

I'm afraid I can't get into your page to verify your claim, or at least don't have the spare time/energy to, because the opening swf is flawed. It freezes after the initial animation and just sits there eating bandwidth thereafter. I tried reading your source but your webmaster did not bother to include an alternate entrance for the cases where A) the flash does not work, or B) the browser does not have flash compatability, for whatever reason. If you be so kind as to provide me with a functioning link I'd be glad to check out your material.

Back on topic!

OK, this works in sauer, it _should_ work in cube too... I'm not taking any responsibility if it does not perform as expected though... =D

Anyway, This binds some speed settings to the left shift key... Matrix mode if in SP, and fast mode if editing (so you can get across maps faster whilst editing).

Here:

-code-

bind LSHIFT [ if $editing [ gamespeed 400; echo "Speed Mode" ] [ gamespeed 10; echo "Matrix Mode" ] ; onrelease [ gamespeed 100 ] ]

-/code-

That is all one line, if it doesn't wrap right on the forum, just make it into one line.

I took a look: very impressive.
just out of curiosity (sorry if this is really dumb, but i missed Quake 2 by a few years) but what does rk stand for? i didn't count very closely, but i think you had about 70 rk## maps (ending with rk102).

has anyone made a script for finding maps not listed in menus.cfg? i've got this huge list of maps, but i'm sure i'm missing half of them in my handmade menu.

reply to this message

#50: RK:

by OCC_H311SPAWN on 06/30/2005 18:47

Thank You, see I didn't lie. LOL

RK is the first letter of My first and last name.

Your right, there is about 70 RK maps listed there and the rest are ViPeRPiT maps. We will get some more put on the site in the near future.

Sorry You missed out on Quake2, but it's not over yet. There are still alot of players around the world, but sorry to say, this great game is comeing to an end. Were all waiting for Quake4 now.

The Quake2 game was so big and there were so many mappers out there, no one ever got to makeing a master menu. Myself, I have over 7,000 Quake2 maps in My collection, and I run a map list on My servers of 150 maps.

I think You would like Quake2 if You and everyone that plays CUBE got a chance to play it.

Tentus, see I'm realy a nice guy and I'm sure You are to. Sorry We got off on the wrong foot.

But I would still like to see a version of CUBE that has binds for turning. LOL

People, please stop this endless discussion. We have about one page full of this. Let's return to the topic.

I was happy to see a good thread like this, with useful config tips. But then, it became as bloody as a ffa game in cube...

I wish some moderator could delete all these messages, just to keep the thread clean.

Returning on-topic: that hex-color chart is good, but you can also use my little script to make it easier to find the desired color. Just use /fogcolourrgb 192 127 0
