by Lavaball on 10/31/2004 08:09, 53 messages, last message: 11/09/2004 17:31, 35303 views, last view: 05/06/2024 11:31

Will everybody or you stop using/playing cube or stop playing on network i dont like that

here's the differences:

Cube:This game is not RPG it's just an FPS just like Quake/Doom.

SauerBraten:This is an RPG not just FPS you got to search for Quests and so-so alot like Grandia but in First-Person.

Oh i forgot if sauerbraten releases i hope Cube will still be updated not be forgoten forever.

well one would think there would be a cube/sauerbraten cross, fps with cube monsters and stuff, using the sauerbraten engine...

umm... dont you see that sauer IS cube? its going to be pretty much the same, only with space over space. Later (probably in a few years) there will be RPG elements added, like dialog and such IF someone codes it. Sauer is so much of just a prototype engine... i doubt it will compete with cube, once it comes out, everybody will switch over. Try to see sauer as like the next major cube release except without the maps. I think the only people who stay on cube will be those who are modding it, and to my knowledge the only current mods are DI and Quad.

#6: Hope it will be open-sourced too

by Lavaball on 10/31/2004 13:51

Well i think Sauer wont be much opened sourced as Cube is the only Modding avaliable for Sauer is coding it and it wont be open-sourced dang it.

??? it is already open-source.

About your first question, the aim of Sauer is everything that Cube can do, Sauer can do it too. So it can be used either as FPS or RPG, or a mix of the two.

I don't remember, i think Aard said that, as Sauer will be able to handle much larger worlds while still keeping intense action in smaller parts, it'll be able to have both the interest of RPG with the adrenaline battles in FPS style :)

it should be called *when* Sauerbraten is released, it's just a matter of time.

#11: the gameplay...

by Aardappel_ on 11/01/2004 00:28

is a bit of a moot point now. The plan I had for sauerbraten (some of this is in the .txt that comes with it, read it!):

(1) complete the engine... again a list of what needs to happen for this is included

(2) "restore" the old cube gameplay functionality. This is to make sauerbraten a good base to work from. This will essentially make it into a cube-like FPS

at this point everyone who wants to work with the engine can grab it and go their own ways. However my personal plan is:

(3) make an RPG much along the lines of morrowind & gothic (huge continuous world, lots of gameplay freedom). I have a design for this, and I want to do this as a community project again, but who is up for this we'll see by then... it is irrelevant now as we're quite a while off (1) and (2).

Nope, cube is going to stay on the site. Even if for some reason Aard decides to remove it (which is next to impossible I think) sourceforge have a very strict policy on this, or at least that is my impression after gazing for a while at their agreement. (not that I read it :)

Aard will go to the Court once he removes it too bad.

No court. In such cases the SF team sends a specially trained assassin.

Nope. Here's a quote from the agreement:

"13. In the event a project developer closes or discontinues his work, his sourceforge account is terminated along with the person in charge and all of his/her files and possessions."
