I'm shocked! I thought it was out already - I've seen it on the movies :)

Still shots of a car aren't very impressive. The PS2 could render that given enough time. The three major consoles will all be pretty comparable in power no matter how many times they use the word "revolutionary" so I wouldn't get too worked up.

Has anyone else noticed the recovery partitions those sneaky computer manufacturers are making now?

yep, they can be handy when you want to make a quick install, but can get annoying when you want to reinstall the OS while keeping the data partition intact.

Normally those setups are mostly used in companies so they can rely on tape backups for restore/saved image disks for system.

Nintendo has also said their next system, the "Revolution", will feature some sort of console-to-console communication, that somehow is not LAN, internet, radio, or any of the other common techniques. Any ideas as to what they could possibly be planning?

Yesterday late at night while I was checking my #cube IRC log something eihrul said caught my eye, about the global warming and that we don't know what is causing it, I think it was. I was too tired to reply then and I'm not very competent, but, you see, my parents both happen to be geologists and we all happen to be from eastern Europe, so we know of the mathematically proven, world-renowned and world-infamous theory of Milankovich (also spelled MilankoviTch, search Google, Britannica, etc.). If you want to check it out do it yourself, don't just trust what I tell you because as I said, I'm not very familiar with it. Briefly, I think it describes the relationship between large-scale climate changes and their effect on geological layers, the movement of stellar bodies, including that of our solar system through the galaxy, and the effects on Earth's climate and surface through the various stages of that cyclic process.

"Run from the cold, ahh!" lol... we didnt cause the first age, and we arent going to cause the second. We all to take a minute and realize that there are some things that are bigger than us and that we cant effect...

and then we have the good sense to invent and distribute neuclear weapons. isn't hmanity great, that we can be a threat to what may be the only planet supporting sentient life (actually, considering the implications of that statement, perhaps that's not such a bad thing)

One guy wrote a 400 page book about his end of the world predictions. He says that in the 2060's we will need to make underground shelters to survive because of disease, radiation etc.

(I think he is a bit stoned but he has a PHD)

*ahem*

pardon my french but:

Those imbescillic asshattish feebleminded twats!

Sorry.

I only count 2 game ports. This is the single, solitary reason I find the PS2 inferior to its competition. Console gaming is meant to be social - 4-player party games are not a niche-market on the GameCube, they're mainstream. The PS2 relegates them to the ghetto of hardware-upgrade-required gaming. The PS3 is making the same mistake.

You mean the two controller slots? Yeah, that really surprised me pretty recently... I don't own, or intend to own, a ps1 or ps2 or ps3, so I had never taken a close look at the ps2, and hadn't realized that you had to buy extra hardware to go beyond two player. Pretty ridiculous. It had never occured to me that ps2 was so far behind in that regard, just because no ps2 players ever complain about it. Of course, I know a lot of ps2ers who still think it's the more powerful than the gamecube... oh well, power of propaganda.

That attitude can be explained by the library of games - GameCube games don't tend to have much in the way of gorgeous photorealistic graphics. Still, show me a PS2 title with the freaky paint and thermodynamic waving effects that you see in Mario Sunshine.

Still, imho Sony has always received the best set of creative smaller 3rd party developers - on Nintendo, almost all the innovative titles are supplied by Nintendo and Rare, and now Rare I think is moving to X-Box (never liked Rare games, personally - all too frustrating). Microsoft seems mostly to be getting very derivative, heavyweight titles.

True, Sony does attract 3rd party publishers, which is odd, becasue by all accounts (even sony itself), Nintendo holds the standard for ease-of-developement. That's one of the things being touted for the PSP, that it's *going to be* as friendly as Nintendo has been.

And really, Rare has really been letting the big N down recently... did anyone play Starfox Adventures? Beautiful game, but painfully bad gameplay. Studios like Retro (Metroid games) have been keeping the Gamecube going, along with classic series like Zelda (which slipped up a bit with the expirimental Four Swords, but got back into shape with Minish Cap).

...

...

Ja, I'm a Nintendo fan. Shoot me. I liked the 64, love my Gamecube, and really really want a DS. Not that I despise my PC (far from it) or dislike my Xbox or Dreamcast (though they're getting there). I just like Nintendo's products better.
