New April (?) cube release...

As you all know, a new cube release is coming up. This will mostly be a content release (many new sp/dm maps, textures, models), but also functions as a wakeup call for all server operators and the "double ogro" problem, and last but not least will also have some new features.

Since most depends on the new content and I know many of you are working on it, I want to set a rough deadline so I can start wrapping things up and stop delaying the release any further. I would hope that to be in a week, but if that is too soon lets do 2 weeks. Let me know where you all stand.

Any further discussion about the new release goes in this thread too.

I think that's probably the best solution... but IIRC, while you _can_ run on the skybox in Zippie, the level seems designed such that you shouldn't... aren't there jump platforms and suchlike that launch you over the skybox? If such is the case, I think Zippie would be _more_ entertaining with the skybox death hazard.

maps like aard3, people now expect to be able to walk on sky... a death level is certainly the easiest solution, but again this is problematic on aard3 where the sky is higher than the middle pit. I guess I could lower it.

The best solution however is to have "texture triggers", i.e. triggers that can be set for the player touching a certain floor texture. That way it can support sky, and lava, the effects are customizable, and you can also create full-room triggers for other purposes with them.

(I've put it on top of the next release todo list).

when it comes to programing the simplest way (i would think) would be a death level. but, if you use that texture thing, could you make it work for walls too?

i also have an idea for the rocket launcher, could you make it so if you get a direct hit, the person like "blows up", just make a few of those gibs you had and make an animation (i could make the "blow up" animation model if you want) of them bouncing around kinda and make a bunch of the red partical blood go everwhere.
that would really add to the enjoyment of the rocket (more in SP than MP i think)

and for SP it would be really nice if the dead bodies (and remaining gib if used) would stay there forever.

...after thinking about it a little, i guess it would be easier to just make some basic bouncing physics and then make it so the gib model randomly spins til it rests (putting full blown physics in it would be a waste) and it would make it more random so you dont see the same "gib fall" everytime.

Well, i'm actually implementing this in my custom Cube version. Defined 'gibc' and 'gibh' projectiles, will probably implement blood parts projectiles too.

Already implemented non-linear projectiles but didn't managed to make bouncing projectiles, so they don't bounce on floor, they just stay on the floor for some time.

This upcomming release notice is an old thread for the 2004 may release, not a new one. Still, those are really nice maps (I particularly like The Edge) - you should put them on Quadropolis.
