New April (?) cube release...

by Aardappel on 04/12/2004 00:58, 313 messages, last message: 07/28/2006 06:40, 321785 views, last view: 05/18/2024 23:00

As you all know, a new cube release is coming up. This will mostly be a content release (many new sp/dm maps, textures, models), but also functions as a wakeup call for all server operators and the "double ogro" problem, and last but not least will also have some new features.

Since most depends on the new content and I know many of you are working on it, I want to set a rough deadline so I can start wrapping things up and stop delaying the release any further. I would hope that to be in a week, but if that is too soon lets do 2 weeks. Let me know where you all stand.

Any further discussion about the new release goes in this thread too.

Since I know you all are gonna ask anyway, these are the very few features that are already in the history list (more will be done before release):

• players/monsters now show death animation, and correctly drop using physics also after death
• "sensitivityscale" variable for lower sens
• randomness in lighting is now the same every time, even with dynamic light
• monsters don't get stuck in the air anymore when shooting/getting hit etc.
• new textures available! look in packages/dg, and at the end of default_map_settings.cfg
• a large set of new map models courtesy of dcp (see the new entity menus)
• "particlesize" command
• "musicvol" fixed
• new enet that fixes double player bug on high pings

Give me 2 weeks, and I'll be done.

based on initial feedback already, its going to be at least 2 weeks. So the initial deadline for all content that you want to be in the new release is sunday night the 25th. I will be away 22-25 anyway.

*Please* put in some work-around for us poor ATI-card-owning people with the crappy glReadPixel (was that it?) bug - I read another thread discussing a fix and it seems perfectly possible... I don\'t really understand why the monsters have no problem shooting though, but I\'ve no idea how it works anyway..

But I digress, please please put in a fix for that :)

I have 2 new songs complete. I think I can do 8 and keep it under 10 megs.

I am capable of doing 1-2 complete songs a night, so I could get that finished within 2 weeks without too much stress. :)

if you really want a death animation, please a short one. in my opinion we don't need it, the game is too fast for crap like this ;0

I think the death animation would be a great way to add some polish to an already great game :D I'm sure it'll still run just fine

don't worry its pretty short, and bodies dissapear (sink through the floor) pretty quickly.

DCP: I'd like to get a hand of your songs if I manage to complete my level in time for the new release. I'm using a lot of interactive music but the current cube songs are very limited. My "boss" battles are pretty intense and there's no really intense songs so far. :)

Drakker,
by some chance are you working on some SP maps? I hope so, I'm dying to play some new SP levels.
