#11: Switching out models

by Sac Lunch on 02/13/2004 19:45

Im sure Im asking the same question that has been asked before. Im using the Cube in a class project and I need to add 6 new skins. I have found them at polycount.com but I am not sure how to import them or make them show up. I figured out the texture files and I am curious if it works the same for the characters too? Any and all help will be welcomed.

Thanks,

Sac

I want to add 6 new monster skins, but I seem to find only pcx files but no jpegs. I am frustrated and changing the file to jpg doesnt seem to work. I hope that helps.

afaik cube uses .jpg files for the model-skins. if you have an new skin for an already existing model (a skin that fits to the model of course) in .pcx format, just load it into your favourite paint-app and save it as skin.jpg.

Can't remember if it was for Cube or another program, but i think you have to check that there is no 'interleave', 'interlaced' or similar (feature for progressive loading of the image for web-pages) so that it can be loaded correctly. Usually this option can be unchecked in the 'Advanced' options in save/export dialogs of image editors.

#17: 2 monster models on my web page

by D.plomat on 02/23/2004 18:05

A while ago i converted some models, but (except for the two ones) i've lost their readmes so for many of them i don't know if their author'd allow me to modify'em and put'em on my page. Now i've recovered nearly all the readmes so if one day i'm a bit less lazy i may consider uploading'em.

you can get'em at(mirrors):

#21: But alot of them have b/w textures...

by e:n:i:g:m:a on 02/24/2004 02:30

Hey, I started downloading some models from Polycount, and I like them, but I downloaded some of the droid/mecha models, and they had grayscale PCX textures. For the ones that had color ones, I simply fired up photoshop, and converted it to a JPEG file. Is there something that I did wrong for the Grayscale ones, or some program that I need to veiw them and make them cube-compatable?

If it doesn't load right in photoshop something is seriously wrong with the image. I don't know why someone would make a greyscale skin.

Thanks, I didn't know if they recolored it in the md2 or what. It looked as though they designed a colored skin and then gray-scaled it or something.

Photoshop seems to have trouble with PCX files. I've had that problem before with PCX screenshots from some game. Try opening them with something else and resaving them.

Is there a program that I can download that can open PCX files? Windows doesn't support them.

You could try paintshoppro, though I've never had nor heard of having a problem with pcx files in ps.
