Mouse rate vs game fps

by Honzik1 on 01/14/2012 17:59, 50 messages, last message: 04/20/2012 21:14, 17784 views, last view: 05/05/2024 01:09

I have a problem. When I set the maxfps to 180, 240 or 300, my mouse still lags sometimes. Mouse feels like it change sensitivity during that lags but the fps indicator shows still a max value. I have tested 2 different mouses.

For many games is 40 fps (or vsync on) enought for confortable playing. Then mouse rate is normal and moves feels not delayed. Why it is not same in Sauer? For Vsync ON I see that mouse moves are also delayed.

For Sauer fps = mouse rate?

Thanks for answer!

That part with "you will see screen tearing" is even stated in the Config Doc.

Setting your max fps to your display frequency can bring about input lag.

I believe it has something to do with the engine or at least the physics running at 200Hz. I forget exactly what I was told about this as it was long ago, but it was relevant to my own input issues at the time. Somebody else would have to explain it.

Anyways. If I run my game at 200Fps I notice no input lag. If I run my game at any frame rate lower I start to notice significant input latency and the game starts feeling very rough.

My monitor refresh rate is supposed to be 61Hz, however if I set my frame rate to 61fps the game becomes almost unplayable for me.

Anything OVER 200 FPS makes no difference that I can tell of.

I honestly have no idea what you guys are talking about. Playing on 60fps with no input latency at all o_O

It does to me, but putting maxfps to 1000 often results in very huge framerate differences (like from 1000 to 600 on open maps).

I always leave my fps uncaged. Helps with all kinds of benchmarks.

What OS are you on Honzik? 32bit or 64bit?

step 1: set mouse setting like so
http://www.snieb.com/mouse_settings.png

step 2: use this to disable win7 mouse acceleration
http://www.snieb.com/Windows7_MouseFix.zip

Use this to check mouse rate, to make sure it's actually at 1000Hz.

Also set 'maxfps' to a multiple of your monitor refresh rate.

For example if you monitor is at 60Hz than use 120, 240, 480. Whatever your GPU can sustain 100% of the time.

and disable v-sync, obviously

My screen has 60Hz.

fps: 60----->>240---->>MAX GPU fps
Screen tearing: MORE--->>LESS--->>NONE
Input lag: MORE--->>LESS--->>NONE

Very difficult to take photo of screen tearing but I have successfully toke 2 of them with maxfps 60 and 120:

With /maxfps 120(or 240) VS /maxfps 1000.... its like if you try mouse rate 125Hz VS 1000Hz.

So I set maxfps to 1000, because: NO mouse lag, no screen tearing. Just my PC is noisy.

BTW: No problem with screen tearing in many different games.

And I know all these mouse settings...but it dont influence these problems.

So the mystery of Honzik1's screen trearing hasn't been solved yet!

I'm not sure about this, but maybe you shouldn't put your face only an inch away from your screen, but like 3 feet instead. That could also help.

suicizer01:
What do you mean with "shouldn't put *my* face only an inch away from *my* screen" ? Should I try with 5m USB extension on my mouse and sitting on the other side of the room ? I don't know how big my room is but I have a 30cm plastic ruler... do you think I should try measuring my room with it to see if I can sit far away enough for the problem to dissapear?

From just photos I can deduce that your pc problem is within the normal operational limit of it's constraints!

200FPS is where it's at. I don't care what they say.

I think your trying too hard fixing it. It's like you're checking if all pixels are right when your moving around.
I actually had the problem some years ago also, putted vsync to 0 and voilĂ , fixed.
By the way, after all these years you've been playing Sauerbraten, why you come up with such question just some months ago?

I have been long used to playing FPS with a maxfps 240. Just few months ago i checked that /maxfps 1000 makes my playing much fluent than before.

First time I thought that 60 fps will be comfortable enough to play when my monitor is 60Hz..it would be logical.
