No drum machine. I use SoundFont banks and program the drums in a MIDI interface by hand (no keyboards).

If it helps, I've found that Hydrogen (www.hydrogen-music.org) works well for making drum tracks. My drumkit is a mix of the built-in samples and samples from the Fluid R3 soundfont (also free).

I don't use a mic, I run a cable from my preamp to my sound card.

AFAIK, only Sound Blaster card can handle SoundFont banks. I had a Turtle Beach card years ago that kind of did it, but it had no features and couldn't edit or create any banks (which I used to do).

I also used the Fluid bank for my last several albums mainly for drums, but also for some other orchestral type instruments.

Sorry to keep bothering you, but suppose i only had $240. do i buy a new pickup, or a Boss MT-2 metal zone distortion pedal? my pickups realy suck but so my effects, and i cant decide which one to get. and is there anything like soundbakns which allows you to add drums to your music without needing a specific sound card?

Without hearing your guitar in person, I can't tell what's wrong with the pickups.

You could have loose wires, a bad pot, old worn out cable, etc.

If that's the case, a new effects pedal won't help much.

nothing wrong, the pickups just overall suck. they are stock peavey pickups on a peavey raptor plus exp. what is a pot by the way?

Short for potentiometer. They're the variable resistors that change the volume and tone. Basically, they're the things the knobs change.

Yeah, pot = knob. Volume, tone, etc.

:)

If your pickups just suck versus being broken, a descent pedal might be good enough. Peavey, meh. I've never liked anything from them (guitars, amps, cabinets, etc).

I would probably look for some descent replacement pickups.

Something like this might be pretty good for rock/metal for about $130:

You could try some lesser expensive ones (search around musiciansfriend.com and read the reviews in particular). They have a few that look good under $75.

They sell that Boss Metal Zone pedal (which I owned one a long time ago, it's a good one) for $88. Both of those together are well under your budget you mentioned.

You could also go with the Metal Core (which is supposed to be better for modern metal versus Metal Zone, which is sorta more for hard rock).

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-ML2-Metal-Core-Distortion-Pedal?sku=150216

It's only $99.

If you have a descent guitar store near you, you should pack up your guitar and take it with you to try out some pedals there. You might find your pickups are good enough with a descent pedal.

my uncle has a yamaha and seymour duncans, and a boss MT-2 metal zone. and it sounds AMAZING. he also has an awesome dean markley amp, which he got them all for $75 at a pawn shop. damn good deal. i cant buy online cause my parents dont have a credit card, so no good deals for me :(, but the metal zone is sooo awesome, its amazing, i was going to buy one but i didnt for some reason, i think it was the $170 price tag. i cant just go looking around either because my "local" guitar shop is over 100KM away, over an hours drive. but my jones bottle cap says on the first week of the next month, do something just for you. we are going to GP on may 1 lucky me, so i think it means buy something. i think i will get a pedal, ut mabe if their having an awesome sale, which i dought, i will get both. i had my guitar at my uncles a couple times, but even with an awesome amp, i did a comparison, and my guitar sucks my uncles guitars balls. its the pickups because i used the exact same settings for both of them. and i dought u would know anything about a peavey raptor plus exp, but do i use a humbucker, or trembucker. i hear u measure the center from pole to pole. and if its over 2" use a trembucker. mine measures 2.04", so i think i use the trembucker.

Since most of the album was in B, I'd have to say the tuning was B. That song was (mostly) in A, and there's an A string in B standard, isn't there? That, and you can drop B standard down to Drop A.
I don't know where you got the Bb from...

Except that that A string is an octave too high.
How\'s this: Use a guitar tuner or (if you have one) keyboard to check what the notes are.

If you are all talking about my tuning, all of mine are simple drop tunings. Tune everything to standard E, then I drop the lowest string to "whatever sounds right", which is usually as low as possible before it rattles, and I tune everything else down to match the standard E type tuning pattern.

I don't aim for B, B flat, C, etc, it's all based on what sounds good with the guitar, string gauge, and amp model I'm using.

The only exception was "Stream Of Consciousness". That was standard E tuning with smaller gauge strings.
