Tabs would be pretty sweet. I can only learn so much J.Cash and 90's alt. rock.

(tunes guitar down and plays F barre chords repeatedly)

You can also see for yourself
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=marc+a.+pullen&aq=0&oq=marc+a.+pu

Although reading off the tabs from the vids is probably not always possible, let alone easy ... at least you can see the guitar ;-)

Anyway, like baby rabbit said - just drop him a line!

Hey all - thanks for the compliments! :)

Sour Anger album was influenced roughly by Metallic's terrible sounding Saint Anger (hence the similar name). I was going for a basic garage band sound, few solos, simple solos, etc. Just good head banging rhythms.

For Sauer Anger I used a custom Gibson SG with an older custom pickup, it's been like 20 years since I got it, so I have no idea what brand it is. But at the time, it was the brightest one I could find for crisp mean sounding metal stuff.

I think I used small gauge strings for that album, but tuned way low (standard drop tuning though). I tuned to something low that sounded good, no idea what notes I ended up on. Just low. :)

And I used a PODxt with a custom amp model.

All of that probably isn't useful to you since most of it is non-typical, but there ya go.

I don't have any tabs for most of my music, I just don't have time for them, and don't really enjoy doing tabs.

My favorite part of the soundtrack is Two Minute Warning and a few songs from Panexypnos Dimiourgia.

Because they're more melodic. I mean, you can recognize a theme more easily, and it makes the tune catchy and memorizable.

I really like the sound of Panexypnos Dimiourgia, it's very unusual for me.

I was missing my second high string (it broke), which forced me to do soloing and some chords differently, it was tuned ridiculously low, and the pickups were failing. The pickups actually sound terrible now as they have almost completely faded. I think one of the resistors went bad, or one of the volume/tone pots are broken.

Sadly, I won't ever be able to reproduce that exact sound.

I think the tuning on Sauer Anger is B standard, B-E-A-D-F#-B. As for tabs, see if you can figure out what this riff is from (Marc himself excluded ;):

B--------------------------------------------------
F#------------------------------------2------------
D----------------------7---------------320---------
A-0007008007--000700800---0007008007------320------
E--------------------------------------------410~--
B--------------------------------------------------

There might be some mistakes, and I hope it doesn't wrap...

Yaaahhh... Fanatic music is wayyy to repetitive. It suits Sauerbraten for about the first few bars and then it all sounds the same. Especially the Sauer Anger album.

Since that didn't come out right, copy/paste the tab into a text editor with a monospace font, it should look neater.

Sauer Anger was meant to be repetitive, it was a basic garage style metal album.

Try my newer album "Odious" and see if that suits you better.

I wouldn't mind removing all the existing songs from Sauer and replacing it with the full songs from Odious to be honest. All of the older ones are low quality and are cut short. Odious is basically non-repeating, so the full songs could be used.

It said in the Sauerbraten readme that they were supposed to be looping to be an everlasting song, but they're all different tempos and keys! Well, most of them anyway.

I'm sure it would be a better idea to add in the new songs. Are there songs that are similar to the Cube songs "Tranquility" and "Lost in the mist"?

If you want the stuff replaced, send me a pack of appropriately compressed oggs and I'll do it. :)

There are 4 different albums in there, keep that in mind. :)

The new songs are very progressive metal (Meshuggah-like), weird tempos.

I think my stuff is used mainly in DM games, so the metal stuff is more fitting than the easy going MIDI based stuff. But, I could include the new metal album and stuff from Unbound, which is more like the songs you mentioned (MIDI based songs). Unbound might actually fit DM descently.

You can get all my albums from last.fm for free though, search for "Marc A. Pullen" there.

eihrul - let me see what I can do this weekend. :) One note - some maps have configs to use those songs, might not be too many. Those should be looked over once you get the new set of songs.

Those two albums with full song lengths would be just over 2 hours.

That's what I meant by appropriately compressed oggs. If the end result is going to be much bigger than what is there, then that's not too good. People already complain about Sauer's download size as is. :/

I managed to get Odious encoded with a little better quality than the old songs and it's something like 7 MB smaller than the old complete set of songs. I'll test it in-game tonight and see how it sounds. I would like to keep the end of song fadeout in, as I think this will help break up the songs, and let you get absorbed back into the game.

Imagine a wicked busy and furious DM match going on with furious music, and the music fades out, guns blazing, then the next song blasts in. Something like that. I can cut off the fades if it sucks of course, but I think this might work better than the current short songs.

Okay, well, when you get the songs done, just maybe post them up on your site or somewhere and put a download link here, then I'll put them in. :)

by marcpullen2 on 04/01/2009 01:02

Ok, this link is only for eihrul. It contains lower quality OGG files (to keep the size down).

If you want the regular high quality MP3 songs, go here:

http://www.last.fm/music/Marc+A.+Pullen/Odious

For eihrul:

http://fanaticalproductions.net/temp/odious.zip (25 MB)

I'll remove this zip file tomorrow or Thursday.
