Hello all... this thread is for discussing features you would like to see in cube, and in particular those that you find most urgent. If lots of people have the same urgent requests, I may give it priority to be implemented.

" maps that are more "human" would be nice"

If i can find some free time, i will probably make some "human" maps, i'm not an expert at editing, but i know the basics.

samel tvom: Maybe it´s easy to kill some non moving noob with the fist, but experienced players won´t let you hit em 4 times.;) It´s only really usefull in instagib, and even there it´s hard to use...

Bout the maps: Cube not much a "realism" game.. and also the engine has it´s restrictions, due to it´s simplicity. Making maps that look like real settings is hard with it...

The fist is best in singleplayer modes. I could see the chaingun being less overwhelming and paralyzing of the victim in DM.

#1464: Grenades

by spentron on 10/06/2004 17:07

Grenades I don't see so much a defensive weapon in DM except for when you can use it to shoot beyond sightlines, but you use it for a lot more than that when it's the best weapon you have. What happens in DM is it's also a spam weapon, you shoot where people might be whether you know they're there or not. This is fair game in botmatch ;), but anti-skill in real DM. In Quake, there is one balancing factor: the same ammo powers rocket launchers so you might not want to waste it. But this is opposed to Cube's ammo-is-the-weapon system. In SP, things are more predictable, so the ability to bounce grenades around corners really comes into its own -- you actually want to switch from RL to GL sometimes.

I only have had time to play the SP. And I still mean that the fist is to good. Actually, you could kill an ogre (if that\'s what they are. looks like it to me) with two punches. So I think the damage with the fist shouldn\'t be as big. But hey, that\'s just my opinion.

#1466: server log

by mumbo$jumbo on 10/06/2004 23:16

Hi,
From time to time the Cube server will die. It can happen once a week or once a month. It would be nice to know what happend just before it dies.

The rocket launcher is often used to spam a teleport or tight passage way. A grenade launcher could do the same thing. Perhaps an alternate fire mode for the RL would be the best solution.

#1468: yeah.

Spammy is a sliding scale. Yes, the RL is by far the most spammy weapon in Cube, but a grenade launcher would be even moreso. I think there are limits to how much weaponspam should be put into the main game.

Besides, slower, spammier weapons also put more emphasis on dodging. Given the client-side hit calculation, that would be rough. Player X shoots a grenade, it bounces around and on the floor. Player Y sees it and moves around it, not realising that his copy of the explosive is in a different position from X's copy, and X sees Y trip over his bomb. Y Dies a very confused death. With rockets it almost makes sense - they move fast enough that its still believable you got hit at decent ping - but with grenades or maybe super-slow rocket projectiles its just confusing in the extreme.

what would make sense is to have an alt-fire for the RL, which would lauch a very short-fuse grenade.

the real problem is that people wouldn't see grenades in multiplayer, because of the way the system is set up, and so you might walk into an explosion not knowing it was happening.

it's not an issue with the other weapons because they happen so fast, and you will see the shooter and know to dodge. that mightn't happen with grenades. to make it fair and fun you would have to rig up a system where position of grenades is sent over the connection before they blow up.

#1470: WeaponStay

by CK|Davros on 10/09/2004 10:49

Is it possible to make players keep their inventory (armour, health and ammo) when they move to a new sp level?
Would be cool if it was an end level trigger option, or options. Keep ammo, get new 100 health..

When i say is it possible, i mean would it be easy (relatively easy anyway) to do.

Not without recode. However this is a good thing, because the accumulated ammo, etc. gets very unpredictable after too long a period. Testing and calibrating one map at a time is difficult enough. Other games use tricks like placing huge amounts of ammo where there are no monsters and no way back to, to use the maximum ammo count to push things back into predictability. Also some of it relates to seperate of weapon and ammo pickups, which Cube doesn't use.

I'm not sure Unreal even allows resetting stats at the beginning of a level, except through writing your own script, which is worse than the Cube arrangement. When I originally played Duke3D and was still learning, at one point I had to back up a couple whole levels when the game got harder and I had accumulated stats loss at the same time.

I would really apprechiate if the readme.html would more clearly point out the nature of the Cube Project.

Some people seem to think since they read "free" and "open source" , they could do with it what they wanted (like remixing maps or modding other ppl´s custom stuff)

I just stumbled across a "douze_remix" that had been spread on a pub and it was dead ugly (only using replace in a very bad manner)...If you are reading this, "FLO" please note that I was not pleased with you ruining my map... If you want to do a remix of a map, please contact the author BEFORE you load it up on pubs....(especially if you asked you to in the map´s readme.txt)

I have nothing against ppl using exsisting maps to practise editing or getting to know the textures, but spreading them is kinda bad behaviour...

Well, it would be nice if there was a fix for the lighting errors in linux.

On the same note, umm, nevermind. I'll post it in the general thread

I agree with the mitaman's texture rotation idea.

and i think there'ld be a good way of making elevators: allow for *moving* ordinary mapmodels, by inserting a #-# at the end of the mapmodel command, which would basically translate into "allow these frames from this model".

then take one of my or dcp's block mapmodels and set it up going upwards over say 10 frames. if that's not high enough for your level take some time and set up several at different heights.

this idea could also be applied to create flowing (but solid) water or a spinning wheel. there'ld be all sorts of possibilities.

How about a little "invalid post" php if thing to stop me posting blank stuff ;-)

Bug in cube, sometimes sounds just stop. Multiplayer and SP. Music keeps going.

Sound card is integrated - nforce mobo.
Havn't spotted any kind of pattern yet, seems to just stop at random.

And when i try to search the forums it just reloads the page and puts a \ in the textbox :-)- Mozilla

#1480: multi SP mode

by johnsmith on 10/24/2004 18:12

It would be nice if you could have a team SP mode. It can get lonely when you're playing on you're own, especially scince everything is trying to get you.
