Bug Reports

by eihrul on 09/03/2008 01:41, 1175 messages, last message: 12/31/2023 08:39, 923194 views, last view: 04/27/2024 09:47

Please post your bug reports in here.

With your bug report, please submit the following information:

1) OS: Your operating system, i.e. Linux, Windows, or otherwise and what version you are using.

2) 3D card: The 3D card you are using. If you do not know, this is printed on the "Renderer:" line in the console when Sauerbraten starts up.

3) The edition of Sauerbraten you are using, i.e. Assassin edition, CVS as of a particular date, or otherwise.

4) Error information: If you are on Windows, a pop-up message showing filenames and line numbers should show up when Sauerbraten crashes; if possible, post a screenshot or a copy/paste of this. If on Linux, post a log of the startup info from the console, including relevant errors or any info you might have discovered. If on MacOS X, please post the crash log if applicable.

5) A description of the problem and how to reproduce it. Please give as much detail as possible on how someone can recreate the problem, in as certain terms as you can. If someone else can't reproduce the problem, it is unlikely he can fix it or tell you what is wrong.

Did anything happen with this ? Is anyone even going to acknowledge that the bug exists ?

It's been present since about forever.
It's just some funky subdivision, and, I think, a limitation of the engine.
Everyone just deals with it.

#174: Gamma drift

by Stotto on 04/28/2009 21:20

When I first installed Sauerbraten, it was correctly lit at an in-game gamma of 110, but as time has gone on this has needed to be set higher and higher and is now 200. I've seen the same thing on another computer, and there it seemed to be related either to alt-tabbing, or to Sauerbraten crashing or being killed.

The current computer runs XP home, and suffers from an Intel 82865G graphics controller.
CTF edition from Sourceforge, on March 10.

The reason for the little pillars on the example map was to show that subdivision fails even for cases where the division is a single level and the desired outcome is simple and unambiguous and exactly representable using the smaller cubes. A bug, and one worth fixing, surely ? As it is, living with the problem seems to entail not making *any* large off-axis surfaces, because any attempt to edit them later may turn them into goo.

Is there a document anywhere which describes the intended mathematics for cube subdivison ? I would be willing to check that the implementation conforms to it, if there is.

#176: Subdivision bug again.

by Stotto on 05/01/2009 09:28

Here's the simplest possible testcase of this bug, being just a cube with one corner pushed in. With it is the nearest possible match using smaller cubes. The engine's effort at doing the same is....interesting.

#177: Water

by tentus_ on 05/02/2009 20:25

This isn't really a bug, but kinda annoying little detail... when you kill someone underwater in the SVN version, they hold whatever pose they were in, more or less. It'd be nice if they slumped or something, to visually indicate that that they're dead. Otherwise you waste a couple seconds and some ammo still firing at someone you've successfully killed.

Any case that does not have a perfect solution cannot be considered simple.

That being said I know for a fact that there exists previous versions where this actually produced the desired result, so something regressed here.

Same error here...
PC specs:
Windows Vista 64bit Sp1
ATI 4870, driver 9.4
Intel Q6600
4 GB Ram
Intel P45 chipset

I recompiled the included source with MS Visual Studio 2008 but that didn't help...
I am going to recompile from svn later today....

Try using an older version of ATI Catalyst. Newer versions are very buggy.

well that's seems to be more like it's caused by vista 64 sp1 then by catalyst...

Intel's graphics drivers are even worse than ATI's in this matter, so it doesn't mean that it both of these drivers aren't both buggy in different ways, with the same error in the end. But yes, Vista seems to be a common thread in these reports. However, Linux 64 bit works fine with Sauerbraten, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with our source code.

I have had reports of Sauer working fine on Vista 64 with Nvidia graphics. So the problem is still ATI/Intel not knowing how to write drivers.

That's not a bug. Delete the old install before reinstalling or install to a different directory.
