Please post your bug reports in here.

With your bug report, please submit the following information:

1) OS: Your operating system, i.e. Linux, Windows, or otherwise and what version you are using.

2) 3D card: The 3D card you are using. If you do not know, this is printed on the "Renderer:" line in the console when Sauerbraten starts up.

3) The edition of Sauerbraten you are using, i.e. Assassin edition, CVS as of a particular date, or otherwise.

4) Error information: If you are on Windows, a pop-up message showing filenames and line numbers should show up when Sauerbraten crashes; if possible, post a screenshot or a copy/paste of this. If on Linux, post a log of the startup info from the console, including relevant errors or any info you might have discovered.

5) A description of the problem and how to reproduce it. Please give as much detail as possible on how someone can recreate the problem, in as certain terms as you can. If someone else can't reproduce the problem, it is unlikely he can fix it or tell you what is wrong.

Make sure the necessary UDP ports are open and forwarded to your computer on any firewalls or routers you may have. (Those ports are 28785 and 28786)

The UDP ports are only necessary if he is looking to host a server. Not if he's trying to get the server list from the master server. So no, you do not need to forward those UDP ports...

I'm starting to get back to playing sauer/eisen and have been poking around with the rpg and have the same exact thing. Eihrul states its a NV problem. That got me wondering because the fps runs great without troubles and the freezes only happen in the rpg game. So I wondered what the difference might be between the two and aside form the rpg stack ( which shouldn't have anything to do with the NV drivers ) the only change I see is the rpg hud. I don't know coding enough to see if there are other things, but I was wondering if eliminating the rpg hud might help; maybe the NV bug is from drawing that for some reason.

I couldn't care less for the rpg hud...I just want to be able to access the rpg scripting stuff.

When i used apt-get install for sauerbraten and showed the following message : "The packages contain unsatisfied dependency:
sauerbraten: Depends: sauerbraten-data (> = 0.0.20080620-1) but will not be installed
E: Packages defective"
Then i tried to install first sauerbraten-data but i received this new following message: "Reading lists of packages ... Made
Construction of the dependency tree
Playing status information ... Made
Some packages cannot be installed. This may mean
you asked the impossible, or if you use
distribution unstable, that some packages have not yet
been established or are not out of Incoming.

Since you have asked for a single operation, the package is
probably not installable and you should send a bug report.
The following information should help you resolve the situation:

The packages contain unsatisfied dependency:
sauerbraten: Depends: sauerbraten-data (> = 0.0.20080620-1) but will not be installed
E: Packages defective"

Please could you help me with this issue?

It is NOT a sauerbraten problem. The problem is, your package lists are outdated or the package is currently not installable.

Run: apt-get update && apt-get install sauerbraten

If still not installable: Wait some days or download directly from SourceForge

the stupidest thing is that i am able to play FEAR on it... so sauerbraten cant normally be a problem.... but i thingk the problem is my windowrange its 1440*900... its a kind of unusual range

Try installing sauerbraten-data, then sauerbraten.
If that doesn't work, get the .tar.gz from Sourceforge and install that.
(I'd recommend not installing the DEB anyway. I don't think anyone here officially supports it.)

The package maintainer is marked as "Ubuntu MOTU Developers <ubuntu-motu@lists.ubuntu.com>", so I'd subscribe to that list and ask them.

.E.A.R. is another game that scales surprisingly well and is easy to test.

First, an amusing anecdote: running the game with the graphics card set at Minimum actually results in WORSE performance than running it with the graphics card set at Low. This can very likely be attributed to using DirectX 8 shaders instead of DirectX 9's, which the GMA X3100 handles much better.

With the computer and graphics card set at "Low," I achieved the following numbers:

Below 1024x768, the X3100 acquitted itself VERY well and unlike in other games, actually produced fairly smooth framerates. I've watched this benchmark a thousand times, and on the X3100 it always slowed down and sped up precisely as I'd expect from any AMD or nVidia part. F.E.A.R. fans are in for a treat here: the X3100 runs it very well for an IGP as long as you don't enable Volumetric Lighting or Shadows, which seem to be historically the achilles heels of IGPs everywhere.

As eihrul said, he doesn't have an X3100 for testing. So, unless you're willing to ship it to eihrul, you're out of luck. Sorry.

I don't recall having this problem in the past. I'm not convinced that its nvidia driver as I didn't have this problem before, even with older drivers.
I am convinced that its not sauerbraten because the problem of temporary screen freezing occurs with older versions and with various versions of nvidia driver ( I'm using 173.14.09 right now. Besides, if it were the driver, wouldn't it also affect the fps version.

I now think its something with kubuntu, because I updated to gutsy gibbon about the same time. If that's the case..its beyond my abilities to track down.

whenever i play a windowed game, the screen is flipped sideways and upside down. I use a mac os X. The game is normal on full screen, but I need to play windowed.
