Hey guys, have you got any ideas for improving my FPS when playing cube 1 or sauerbraten?

My Specs are:
Pentium 2 400Mhz
512mb ram
Geforce 5200 128MB
Ubuntu Feisty

What are you talking about?

When did you run extensive tests to find minimum hardware requirements for Sauer?

"at least 256MG of dedicated graphics"

Memory on the card means naught for comparison purposes. Case in point, a 256MB Radeon 9600XT vs 128MB GeForce 6600GT. The 6600GT wins, about nineteen times over.

Vram is not a rare commodity when running Sauerbraten anyway.

And neither of them match the specs you listed. Either quote or link, please. It will be much less confusing to newcomers.

And don't make up units like mrh. It'd be MHz.

Go to newegg.com, and get yourself a nice computer! (make it)

I was going to do that, but I am not into games very much anymore, so I am okay with a Macbook, it has a GMA950.

My specs are :

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
2048MB RAM
Windows XP SP2
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (512 megabytes of RAM)

And i'm running at 1024*768 @ 24 bits colours, antialiasing x4 (and maxreflect 8) and i'm running at 180 fps in metl4, 70 in river_c, 20 <-> 200 in skycastle, etc.

#21: Slowdown on level II?

by samzuni on 08/24/2007 16:24

I have similar problems with my sauerbraten, and I just played the first time last night. About anywhere I start out with a FPS in the range of 100-50, but when the game progresses to (level II ??) it drops down to about 12 FPS. What gives? This is on a windowed game (single screen) as duplicate screens is very distracting. Which I get duplicate screens in full screen mode (2 monitors).
So, the real question is why the slowdown when going into (level II?) and what\'s different?

I have 4GB ram, dual core 2.1 Ghz Intel processor, and an Intel GMA graphics card, but the best I can get on Sauer is 20 fps. With the graphics turned all the way down.

#1 thing you can do is install latest drivers.

Note that on integrated graphics, you're not going to get very good performance ever.

from what i know sauer is a core hogging game. most of the power ir requires to run optimally has to be given from your cpu.
A mediocre gfx card is enough to do its job.

I have AMD Athlon 6600+, dual core at 3Ghz, yet there was no change when i upgraded the gfx from Radeon 2600XT to 8850..

If you started with a Radeon HD 2600 and changed to a Radeon 8850, that's a downgrade.
There is neither a Radeon HD 8850 nor Radeon 2600 (at least according to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ATI_Graphics_Processing_Units ).

And yes, a mediocre graphics card is sufficient. The (underpowered) open-source radeon driver on Linux with my Radeon X1600 Pro (RV530) runs Cube 2 pretty well (provided you turn off the high-end graphics and use PVS for big maps).

As always, one should make sure they have the latest drivers for their hardware.

i agree on this..
and just for the record, i previously had an Ati Radeon 2600XT, and upgraded to Ati Radeon 8850.. if you still don't get it, just go to amd.ati.com lol

i never used vsync lol
but anyway, its almost impossible to play even cube 1 with a 400mhz cpu.. its just too weak
