After months of requesting it in the xfire forums, it has finally happened. Xfire support for sauerbraten!

Nicholas:

"Yay, a game for Mac, Linux, and Windows is now supported by a Windows-only program. :-("

"You're right about that. I'm just disappointed that even when an application is supported on a few different platforms someone finds a way to make it restricted to one."

When you post unfounded biased bullshit, expect an unfounded biased bullshit answer.

>The Wine developers themselves have never created a commercial version as far as I know.
well, most are employed by codeweavers...

Passa, you are taking the comments made here too seriously, and are combining them with some other inexplicable source of anger. How about instead of starting flame over such a frivolous thing, make a meaningful post.

Yes, the way xfire detects each and every game is a complete and utter hack. Hacks generally confine themselves to one operating system. That is fine, as xfire support is a frivolous thing. Getting upset over someone pointing that out is pointless.

I don't see why good news has to be spoiled by another fan boy. How about instead people just be happy at Sauerbraten getting some attention.

"You have serious anger management issues."

Yeah, I do have anger management issues. You know what? Someone needs to cause me to get angry before there are any problems. You've CAUSED me to get angry by posting utter crap and being a blatant attention seeking troll. I refuted your stupid initial flame and moved on, YOU had to bring it up again. YOU won't get over it. YOU have issues.

You're both still going. Now knock it the hell off and stay on topic.

Yes, sauerbraten got xfire support. Yes, it only works on windows, like a million other programs.

Get over it.

The problem with your explanation was that my original post was just adding factual information, and so was my second, both in a calm way. You are the one who is getting angy over things, and if you flame this post, wou will have proven that point at least 3 times now.

2x2s are very disturbing ideed. To solve this problem I made a small C command line calculator. I think everyone having such problems should do the same. First you need to start with learning the command propt, then move on to C books and tutorials, and finally - you should install several compilers and operating systems (Linux and Mac mandatory) to test the app.

Of course this is just a suggestion.

@ATIRULE: Don't make this more painful for you than it has to be. After all, I got your Intel chip working (see General). Not bad for a hardcore Linux user- at least we know how to read a wiki.

And by the way, this goes for everyone: Don't comment on Linux unless you've actually tried it. (And you don't even have to install it to try it- let's see Windows run off a Live CD. :P)

"And you don't even have to install it to try it- let's see Windows run off a Live CD. :P"

Well, I have to stop you there. Windows can be run off USB devices and using BartPE, run in a similar method to a Live CD :P

Look guys, you want OS wars, bump that 200 post long OS wars thread.

I don't really like OS wars that much either, but if Mr. Generic Windows Fanboy wants to duke, fine with me.
Back on topic: Is the Wine workaround that someone mentioned just a matter of moving some files around? I have a (barely used) Xfire account that might still work.

Actually, according to the Wine AppDB, there really isn't anything much that needs to be done: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=7902

#31: Actually, there's Gfire

by Greywhind on 06/10/2007 02:43

Fortunately for those of us who hate running Xfire in Wine, since it's slow and buggy from my experience, there's a limited-feature version that is a plugin for Gaim. There's also an Adium plugin, if you're a Mac user. They don't have in-game messaging, but it's still something.

Look up Gfire or Xblaze if you're on Linux or Mac, respectively.

You can compile it from source, or there's a few more updated binaries somewhere - a testing repository or something, I don't remember the exact link right now.

Just get it from SVN. And besides, it should still work if the version mismatch is that close.

I win. You Windows haters lose.

http://appdb.winehq.org/appimage.php?iId=11132

Yes, the main window looks strange but its bearable. Thats Wine 0.9.38. running Xfire 1.76 and Sauerbraten Spring Win32 edition. Detects it perfectly, in game chat is fine too.

Under LINUX! So I win :)

Oh and, Sauerbraten runs fine under Wine (exactly the same as native, same performance, everything), you just lose sound - fair trade off for in-game chat and time logging? Its up to you.

Another screenie to prove I'm awesome:
