Sauer Guy

Hello. This thread will be a progress/critique thread for a character model for the Sauerbraten FPS game and game engine. His name is Sauerguy. Currently he consists of two object meshes, an upper and lower to be tagged together and linked within Sauerbraten to facilitate resolution depth for the uvmaps . Also weapon tags will be used if needed. Without much ado here is the current progress shots for your critiquing pleasure. Please ignore the vertex and edges that seem to lead off to nowhere. These are artifacts of the z offset and do not show up in the actual model.

As you can see extra edge loops were used to facilitate animation with proper deformation, specifically in all joints. I have not yet decided which animation rigging system I will use but it will probably be a combination of IK, painted vertex weights and script handlers for proper joint deformation. All that is on the drawing board, though, because first I would like your comments on how to improve the mesh before I even consider animation.

The pig is a long story.

Animations are being tweaked. I have gotten IronSnout, his official name, in the engine with some basic anims to test them and textures. The tags exported from blender are working pretty well. As IronSnout is 3 md3's I added tags so they would stack correctly ingame. So far so good.

Well is it going to stay a pig or will it be an option? I mean, the model is great and everything, but I really liked the post-apocalyptic look of the gas mask guy...

Hrm, any nice work.

Also, as soon as I get my laptop back from the manufacturer (the wifi card died), I'd be happy to help test the model out for you in game & stuff...

Personally I think he\'s too \"bouncy\", especially while running. Idle animations are okay, but he looks too \"animated\" for my tastes.

I like the animation, but the only problem that I have with the model is that I like the original concept better. I'd feel more comfortable being a human being then be a oinker. lol (no offense)

Here are the anims I have been working on. If you have been following IronSnout's progress you'll notice some changes to the animations.

Firstly, the firing anims. Keep in mind that all anims can be layered over top one another i.e., single gun firing over the run anim to produce a single gun firing while running anim.

Ironsnout is in CVS. He's changed quite a bit from the start. He will continue to change as new textures are supplied. I won't provide a screen for this one as you can see the results ingame!

Special thanks to eihrul for practically bending over backwards to help out with exports and fine tuning anims and skins.

Most of all thankyou to my fiance, Stacy, for being there.

when you say "as new textures are supplied", do you mean as _you_ supply new stuff or as _we_ help supply new stuff? I'm very interested applying some of the stuff I've been working on to him, but I don't want to trod on your ground if I'm misinterpreting.

Even so, this means I'll have a place to start working from with my original projects now! So the reaction is still huzzah!

I am supplying new textures. Some fine-tuning was needed after seeing the defaults with glow spec and env applied.

tentus quality is never frowned upon. If you can improve the textures please do. Contact me if you are interested for uvmaps.

Can you please put Ironsnout on Quadropolis so that lesser sauerbraten...ers... like myslef can use him. CVS confuzes me dearly but I\'ve really been looking forward to playing with ironsnout...

Ironsnout only works on CVS Sauer, as we had to make some very significant changes to our MD3 and animation setup to get it to work at all.
