#7388: Re: need help with sauerbraten

by ethan592 on 01/14/2007 18:56, refers to #7386

im not certain but i think you are fine. all that means is that you have a weak video card. a warning doesn't mean a problem, an error does.

Mike, look into the zips. If they got a structure starting with "packages" just unzip em to your sauer folder.
If it´s just a *.ogz (or a *.ogz and a *.cfg) those go into /packages/base.

Then just have a look what the map file is called and type /map mapname.

Remember sauer has tab completion, so when the map´s name is "coldplains" for example you just got to type "/map col[tab]".
If it´s a sp map, type "/sp col[tab]"

gf3 can work, if it has sensible drivers... but it will be very slow and ugly.

#7398: Intel graphics slowness (tried everything)

by Redeyes_Gambit on 01/17/2007 21:32

}{i,

I have an Intel 910/915gm graphics chip that normally kicks bootay on most oldie-but-goodie games and even several new ones, however saur is giving me some difficulty.

Lol, before you all go ballistic on me I HAVE actually read other posts in this forum, looked at the wiki, read the readme, updated my drivers, turned all options in saur to min, etc, etc, etc.

Nothing has helped. My graphics chip is using 192 megs of my 1.24 gigs of DDR2 system ram and supports DX9. My system in general has: A 1.5 ghz Intel Celeron m proc set to max, Avast Anti-virus which is MUCH lighter than Norton/Mcaffe, plenty of HDD space left and no spy-ware/viruses.

I have also tried Saur in Linux Ubuntu with Intel 3d drivers installed but it is also slow. I get fair performance with other 3d games/beryl/GL screen savers in Linux.

The errors I get in game are (in windows) RECT textures are not supported (which I have read is only related to bloom which I have off.) And (in Linux) "graphics card driver claims not to support 0x5b" which is from old drivers and most of the time can be ignored.

My bro has a older system with a 900-something mhgz proc, 384 megs of ddr 2100 sys ram, an old geforce 4000-something with 64 megs of ram, and is generally much slower than my system but saur runs great on his (?!)

I theorize that saur is using openGL software acceleration instead of hardware (which my graphics card DOES support, it has a dozen options to control various GL settings.) Is there any way to force Saur to use hardware acceleration? Or perhaps you think it is something else?

Any input is appreciated.

Intel's OpenGL implementation appears problematic at best. We'd like to create workarounds if we can, but without any Intel hw to test on that is not easy... we are actually currently discussing this with Intel.

could also be connected to the fact that sauerbraten uses occlusion queries for occlusion culling, which intel graphics "cards" don't support (except the X3000)

#7405: Compiling problems

by Lotacus on 01/18/2007 06:58

I am having problems running the game. First it says to make sure required SDL packages are installed and lists them. They are installed. Next it says to go to sources/src folder and make install. When I did that, I get ALOT of GL errors here is a snippet:

/usr/include/GL/glext.h:6478: error: ‘GLenum’ was not declared in this scope
/usr/include/GL/glext.h:6478: error: ‘GLenum’ was not declared in this scope
/usr/include/GL/glext.h:6478: error: ‘GLenum’ was not declared in this scope
/usr/include/GL/glext.h:6478: error: ‘GLint’ was not declared in this scope
/usr/include/GL/glext.h:6478: error: ‘params’ was not declared in this scope
/usr/include/GL/glext.h:6479: error: typedef ‘PFNGLGENERATEMIPMAPEXTPROC’ is ini
