#9779: Fullscreen problem |
by Michael (Sir-Taco)

|
I\'ve played the Cube/Sauer series of releases since 2005 and so far, everything in the game has gone smooth. Now, at the last lan party I was at we decided to play a Sauer match, and I found to my dismay that my full screen was very, messed, it would say that full screen is \"1\" or on, yet i could see the window top and sides and the very tip of the start bar, it looked really odd, then i tried it in Cube, Assault Cube, and even some non cube games like freeorion and freeciv, same things. So what happened? Any guesses or solutions would help.

#9780: Unplayable FPS |
by vyse

Hello, i am new so please bear with me.
I need some information. I understand that Sauerbraten needs a 1ghz cpu but i am running a 1.4ghz t-bird with 512mb ram and 256mb geforce 6200 agp x8 - at first the game would not load - then after installing the latest drivers from nvidia it loaded but the fps is too slow - the game is jerky to the point that it suffers a time lag of +5 seconds.
In your experience is my system up to it? Is there an opengl test i can run in windows xp - similar to glxgears in linux?
thank you in advance.

note if your 6200 is a 6200-Tc or 6200 Td variant
make sure the agp aperture setting in the pc bios is set to at least 64 mb 128 mb would be better but will use more system ram

Make sure you have shaders set to 0 in the options menu. You'll probably also want to disable the water effects, grass, and reflections, etc.
Decreasing your resolution can also help dramatically.
Basically just disable everything that makes the game pretty and your fps should go way up.

#9784: Hosting a private server? |

I\'ve read the documentation and the wiki, and I haven\'t found anyway to host a private server, I want to play with a few of my friends (privately) is there any way to have the game show up on their client only if I know there IP or at least have passworded rooms?
I\'m on the Mac OS X assasins edition

the only way to do that is for you to point it to a phony master server so it won't show up on the list, like -m127.0.0.1 :P
then if you know your IP, and/or have a domain name, just let them connect to that, and enjoy yourself, as not even eihrul would know it exists till you tell him it does :)

#9790: Many maps not working under Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 |
by mneisen

Hi, I downloaded the newest release of SB and applied the patch of 2007-12-27. While for some maps, everything seems to work alright, several maps just don't work: f.e. urban_c, river_c, and corruption.
I use Gutsy Gibbon (32-bit) on a machine with an AMD X2 and an ATI X1650 (yes, I know ... :-D).
Any guesses?!
Thanks in advance!

How do they 'not work'? Does Sauerbraten crash? If so, what is the console output? Or do you just get abnormally low FPS? If so, do you have the latest drivers? We need some more information before we can help you.

Hi there, sorry for not supplying all needed information.
'not work' means: SB starts to load the map, then it hangs. Last output in the game window is f.e. 'generating environment' (IIRC), there is no special error output on the console.
CPU usage of linux_client is at 100%.
So, no crash, but a hang. :-(
My driver version is fglrx 7.1.0-8.37.6+2.6.22.4-14.10.
Please let me know if you need any further information!
Is there a way to turn on verbose output in the console so I can see what is going on?

That's pretty weird too, Cube runs @ 15/20 fps on my computer nowadays, while Sauerbraten does not have any problems to run with all the eyecandy @ 1024*768...

Well, these are the drivers supplied by Gutsy Gibbon, and with all due respect: I cannot see the point in ruining my system by installing drivers not tailored for my distro.
Nevertheless, SB is a great game and I certainly will continue to play it - even if this means I have to reboot quite a lot ... :-D
Thanks for the information all the same!
Happy New Year!
