Because I just checked out the latest CVS Sauerbraten, the c::b project was from a much older version, and assassin.h wasn't even included in the project. Could you please use a nightly build?

My friend is trying to get his Sauerbraten up and running so we can play it, but he gets a runtime error whenever he tries to start it up. Any idea how to fix this?

He's using Windows Vista. I sent him the link to that fix, but it didn't help him any.
The error message says this:
Sauerbraten Win32 Exception: 0x0000005 [0x8]

Do you connect to the internet through a proxy server, and have you insured that the computer you're trying to play Sauerbraten on has a connection to the internet?

When you see the fatal error message, see if you can see the console and see if there are any suspicious error messages. And I can understand why you and your friend want to play; it's really quite an extraordinary game.

I hate unnamed players...
So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, add this code to menus.cfg:
if (strcmp "unnamed" (getname)) [ sleep 100 [ showgui Name ] ]
newgui Name [
guitext "Nick name:"
guifield newname 15 [name $newname] [newname = (getname)]
]

Okay, I had him check the console, he said there are three errors that come up in the console:
WARNING: No texture rectangle support. <No full screen shaders>
WARNING: No framebuffer object support. <Reflective water may be slow>
WARNING: Non-power-of-two textures not supported!

Hmmmmm... the first one sounds bad, but none of those should be fatal I don't think. With my old card I used to have the second two errors come up and not have any problems. So those come up right before the error message?

He says that the errors come up before the fatal error, then a bunch of code, then the fatal error.

Well how about posting the whole thing?
When asking for support, you should provide all the information you can, especially error messages or logs...
