#9451: okay

by gibs_again on 11/06/2007 19:35

I'm almost done arguing now about the rockets. You'll never change my opinion, but since not many people agree w/ me, I'll leave it alone (after this :P).

Even though the damage values are probably perfectly balanced, the reason the rl feels overpowered to me is just its nature: launching large deadly explosions that don't have to hit to kill.

I now think the best solution would be a slightly longer reload time.

I'm done now...hey at least I tried, right?

Yeah, at least you tried!

I also think a *slightly* longer reload time would be beneficial. The source is right in front of you...

I modded it to see how it feels. It feels good.

"My crosshair always loads as an opaque white box. My crosshair.png is fine.
Thoughts?"

Correction: it tends to load correctly when I first load the game, but when I change servers/maps it goes to a white box.

Slight question for mac users, how can i delete atomatically created .DS store files in my .zip archives? I face the problem that if i whish to edit my .zip files it unpacks them instead of editing them :( and programs that allow me to edit inside a .zip file?

Winrar should do what you're asking. Dunno if they have a mac version.

"win"rar seems pretty self explainitory :P Yeah macs got programs too, but unfortionately they are always used to "unpack" instead of editing :/

Don't judge a book by it's cover, or a program by it's name. :D They actually do have a Mac OS X version, so ha.

http://www.rarlab.com/rar/rarosx-3.7.1.tar.gz

It's command line only, but it should still do all the cool things it can do in WinXP.

man zip
...
-d Remove (delete) entries from a zip archive
...
-df [MacOS] Include only data-fork of files zipped into the archive. Good for exporting files to foreign operating-systems. Resource-forks will be ignored at all.

There is a good Automator-Plugin for the -df Option: Create Clean Archive
http://mikepiontek.com/software/mac/create-clean-archive.html

Save as Finder Plugin and you can create clean zip archives from the Finder. I love it. :)

Can anyone help with the crosshair problem?

Also, where do screenshots go by default?

Screenshots go into your Sauerbraten base directory, usually C:\Program Files\Sauerbraten.

#9466: Server, Client communication

by phoenixsux on 11/08/2007 21:06

I am trying to understand how to add new client to server commands.

I created SV_ROUNDCHANGE for a client with admin pass to change the round times. First i used 'ri' in the message string and was getting kicked from the server mod when i was trying the command ("end of packet" or some such.)

So i changed to sending a string and on the server side converting that to the integer and used 'rs' when sending the command. but now the server crashes when it gets the command.

How do i properly construct new SV_ commands for communication from server to client and vice versa?

pointing me to a tutorial i may of missed in the docs would be greatly apperciated.

PS: i'm normaly a VB guy so speaking to me like a 2yr old when you reply wouldn't be out of line. :p

Really stupid question, but where does the autoexec.cfg file go exactly?

Ive tried several directories, but it didn't seem to work :/ Do I have to put it in a different directory by any chance, as I am a mac user?

Lets see if I can make this format sensibly..
/sauerbraten/
--- launcher.app
--- sauerbraten/
--- ---- sauerbraten.app
--- ---- data/
--- ---- packages/
--- ---- servers.cfg
--- ---- config.cfg
--- ---- init.cfg
--- ---- autoexec.cfg **here**

However, if you've checked the 'keep personal files separate' checkbox in the launcher, then push the 'open folder...' button and put it in that folder.
