What about in real life? Are rockets/missiles slow? Do they have tiny little spheres of fire? Do they have a five foot explosion radius?
</rant>
Not to flame or anything. I do agree on one point though: you can empty 15 rockets in about 15 seconds. It would be nice to make the wait time longer. They could possibly travel a little bit slower, too.

Yeah, but do ogros run around shooting each other in real life? This game isn't exactly aiming for realism...:P
I'm coming from a gameplay/balance perspective here.
1 + 1 = 2?

Haha, nice comeback! I can understand where you're coming from.
8 x 5 = 40?

I can dodge then when I'm feeling sharp; if they're going to be less frequent, they should be more powerful.
Maybe when you pick up rockets, you pick up /one/ rocket to a maximum of five that can inflict 250/120/80/40 damage (say).
Nah, that's not 1 + 1; it's 1 plus 1; a /much/ harder problem!

Hehe, thanks. ;)
I don\'t mean to say that rockets should be gimped to the point where they\'re useless, just not so extremely effective as they are now.
Spamming them is fun, but just feels cheap imo.

Rockets can be dodged - if you see them coming, that is. They are good for mid-range combat, and there they are _really_ good, but you can avoid those situations. A combination of rifle and shotgun kicks rocketlaunchers' ass.

The next time someone comes at you with a launcher, try getting up-close-and-personal with the shotgun. Nothin' says lovin' like a shotgun to the face. ;] And most folks pinning all their hopes (and frags) on a launcher won't know what to do.

In real life, rocket launchers are intended to knock out vehicles and armor. They don't really have a huge splash - it's more like a shaped charge.
Mortars and grenades however...

Good point. But then again, in real life, a lot of rockets home in on their targets....

Hey, I'm trying to get a midi file to play for a map, but no go. I checked my syntax, spelling, and locations- everything is right, but it still pops up an error in Sauer when I load the map. Any ideas? Is there some version of Midi we don't support?

Well thanks for your replies...
*sigh* I guess I'm the only one that thinks rockets are too powerful.
Morosoph, yeah it's easy to dodge them in open spaces, but how about in metl3 for instance?

#9418: CVS against Summer servers? |

I've seen several folks mention running nightly CVS builds of Sauerbraten and thought I might give it a try, but my CVS-compiled Sauer can't connect to Summer Edition servers (I get told that I'm running a more recent version).
This makes sense to me, but I'm left to wonder: is there some way to connect a CVS client to a Summer Edition server?

Hehe, yeah I guess.
But still, it seems that you should be able to retaliate once you've been hit, but by the time you've landed and gotten your aim back the next two rockets are landing at your feet.
There's just no chance of surviving a close range rocket salvo from a halfway competent player.
That's what makes me sad. :(

#9420: Dodging Missiles |

Rockets /are/ pretty powerful, I agree, but they've got to act a bit like rockets in order to justify their rocketness.
My reckoning is that one rocket every three seconds to a maximum of five would be better than lowering the power of a rocket. A low-powered rocket isn't much fun at all! Far better to double the damage caused (yellow armour will still beat a rocket causing 250 damage).
Picking up only one at a time would radically change their strategic use, IMO; such a change would turn rockets into something to be saved until the crucial moment...

Yeah well i figured that out long ago, but at least i got it confirmed. Any ideas on how to fix it? I just went to the screen and graphics application and it says i got an intel 945 but im not using a driver with anything like that in the name it says im using "intel experimental modesetting driver for I..." that doesn't sound right, so ill select the "i810 - Intel integrated graphics" and ill tell you how it goes
