After seeing idea after idea get shot down all over the place in these forums, it occurred to me that perhaps this thread might be a good idea.
Got an idea for a Cube 2 mod? Go ahead and get it out of your system and post it here. If you are a modder, scroll through these. Maybe one of them can give you some inspiration.
Note to developers and long-time forum users: this is not intended to be a place where future updates or changes to the game you know and love to be posted. This is merely a place where half-formed (but possibly good) ideas can be discussed at present value without having them immediately shot down.
On that note, the only rule: No attacking of ideas just because they are not implementable within the current engine.

If you died you can't defend your base, that's probably the reason why it the spawndelay has been set to 5 seconds.
Nevertheless, I also agree 10 seconds was just fine.

Due to the fact that SP ents are probably not going to be ported to MP soon, what about this:
Auto-adjusting ents. When you place boxes and barrels, they load normally in SP mode, but when you play in MP they directly convert themselves to mapmodels with the same values (used model, angle).
Might be somewhat useful, right now do boxes and barrels simply turn into air.

The basic and quite simple idea:
An addition to efficiency where you can specify just one of the weapons for the match. We already got it for the rifle (called insta), but I think it would be nice to do this with the other weapons, too. I could imagine this being a command line option only, maybe be typing "/effic1" ... "/effic4" for shotgun, machinegun, rockets and nades.
I could imagine that might be a nice feature for players who want to improve with a certain weapon. And it would be fun, of course. I'm aware that this suggestion is a tiny bit similar to tactics arena, but it is still very different, as both players have the same (and only one) weapon here.
Anyways, this would probably be very easy to implement, which is why I wanted to put this out here for discussion. What do you think of it?

It has been done already several times on modified servers (I remember it was one RB server a long time ago? Anyway, they got experience so ask them).
Better to call it something like insta_rocket, insta_nade, etc, as efficiency is based on all weapons, not just 1 (even there are some players which think that it should be played with 1 weapon, like rockets).
I wouldn't mind as a fun-mode, but it's not really something which is that useful.

YOu definitely can't call it insta_something, as insta would mean you die instantly. I'm thinking of the normal 100 health plus 100 armor like in effic.
I know this might be of limited use, but as a servermod, I don't think this goes well with the masterserver rules. Plus it is very easy to implement in the first place. Plus it might really be fun and might be able to be an incentive for players to explore Sauerbraten beyond instamodes like iCTF and insta on venice :)

I already suggested something similar some pages ago (see post 12 in this thread). I actually also like the idea, but the others refused it for a bunch of reasons:
1. pistol rounds would be boring
2. grenade rounds would lag too much
3. rocket rounds would lag too much as well
4. if you really want a map to be played with 1 gun only, place ammo accordingly
If you ask me rather bad arguments actually.

RB still have private server running with all possible gameplay mods. Only first game is fun with insta_someweapon all other rounds become boring and not interesting.

Bad arguments indeed. Best is #4: If people really wanted everyone to only use rifle, they could've just put tons of rifle ammo everywhere, no need for a seperate gamemode! ;)
There is a difference between rifle and other weapons, though. Depending on the amount of health you start with, of course.
a) 1 health + rockets + 20 players => madness
b) 100 health + 100 armor + rockets + 2 players => fun(?)

Ballistic mutator in Red Eclipse proves that to be half true, but only for the first couple of times. It's really annoying when you're over it but newbies keep voting for it.

You must admit though that the rockets in RE behave a whole lot differently from those in Sauer, in a way that I imagine a rockets-only mode to be more fun in Sauer than in RE.
