Sauerbraten - Bug reports

by Gilt on 11/28/2004 19:49, 574 messages, last message: 06/30/2007 22:00, 505217 views, last view: 07/05/2024 15:33

So yeah, since I don't feel like doing a whole lot of testing anymore, I may as well leverage my resources, and shove that responsibility to all of you. Hopefully, this will allow for more updates, and a less buggy engine.

The Format:
-----------
What: A *short* description of the bug / problem.

How: point form of relevant steps to reproduce the bug.

When: revision of exe. OS, video card... yeah I don't know, anything that might be relevant. keep it short.

Detail: any other stuff that might be relevant. like pics. http://www.imageshack.us/ if needed.
-----------

new releases here:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/sauerbraten/sauerbraten/sauerbraten/bin/sauerbraten.exe?view=log

for each new version, I will list fixed bugs. you are then responsible to make sure that it really is fixed, and then confirming it in this thread.

!!! NOTE !!!: this thread is not for feature requests, design discussion, bitching, moaning, yadda yadda, etc. there are other threads for that. plus, a forum thread already does not afford great organization. please no garbage.

Keep reports short. I have a habit of skimming large blocks of text.

Focus on the WHAT, not the WHY. There is a tendancy in people to want to be too helpful. They try to diagnose the problem instead of very clearly describing what is wrong. at the very least, keep theories in the detail section.

#567: still angry

by rc the one on 06/28/2007 04:00

My game constantly is crashing, either when people join a server, or when I join it. The crash says little more than, Memory could not be read, an obvious engine issue. I run at 50 - 200 fps, depending on the map. My specs are, a 3.2 ghz celeron processor, 512 mb RAM, an ASUS 256mb pci-express video card, and it is an E-Machine, running Windows XP service pack 2. I have no trouble playing games, and it usually only crashes in Coopedit mode. This error happens a lot on my other pcs as well, and I can't figure out why, and when it does crash, the system becomes unstable, and unable to return to the desktop.

#570: X freeze on exit - ATI card

by SDark on 06/29/2007 22:19

Hi. I've been trying to play Sauerbraten on my laptop and the game itself seems to run fine, aside the speed performance problems. I haven't messed with it much.

I'm running Gentoo linux with the stable ATI drivers on Portage. Also the latest sauerbraten pack on Portage.

The buggy thing is that whenever I start the game, it works fine. But everytime I exit, X locks and I can't do anything about it. I can't even kill it with Ctrl+Alt+Del. The only thing I can do it press the poweroff button and after a while the screen will be released (as in no longer displays X) goes to shell and poweroff without major incidents. Only the poweroff button works.

I have no such problems with other games.

Any similar problem reported and fixed?

Thanks
SDark

What version of the ATI drivers is that? I used to have that problem with my X700 PRO and drivers <=8.32 (I think, its been a while since I've used that card), but it wasn't restricted to Sauerbraten. I also haven't had it with 8.37 on a 9600 Radeon Mobile, and the release notes for 8.37 state: "ISSUES RESOLVED: (1) Logging out of a session to the graphical login manager no longer crashes the Xserver"

I'm using the latest ATI fglrx drivers that are out right now... (as of 30. jun. 2007)

all properly setup and works fine with games like savage, etc.

I'm running on 64bit ubuntu feisty fawn - I compiled the Game from CVS source and it all plays fine... get nice 60fps... but when I exit - just like the two people above this post... its freezing X for me... and thus I got no other choice but to force reboot the Notebook by pressing the Power-Button...

I'm using a X1300 Mobility Card with 128MB GPU-RAM... (no shared memory crap)

I hope this can get resolved sometime and I get notified or something... maybe I will take a look into the source myself and hope for the best...

The x1000 series seems prone to different issues then previous series, though not having used one myself I'm not particularly familiar with them. You might try asking for help here: http://rage3d.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=88
It's watched by the ATI Linux driver developers, and has some very knowledgeable members.
