Well, they say that they achieved up to 22fps on non-trivial scenes. While this is still not playable, plus their "non-trivial scenes" are nothing compared to a map in sauerbraten (I guess), I doubt this will come earlier than cube 3. =)
Besides this – sauerbraten does not use raytracing, does it? I'm not the expert, but I think it uses Z-buffering. Does Photon Mapping work with Z-buffering? I don't know.

How's it made?
I'm assuming by the shadowed areas that its probably absorbing the color of the texture beneath it? Or is it just its own map?

The thing that scares me is if it's gonna slows down my PC :| Too many grass sprites would be bad but it looks cool,I hate it when my PC Won't support everything.

True, maybe.
Yes, you did not say it coming to cube, Lex Luthor did. I quoted the wrong post, sorry.

I had maxed out for this screenshot - full shaders, bloom, high resolution and anti-aliasing (runs at 22 fps on GeForce 6600) ;)

I hope my X1600M can handle this. :P
The grass is not (yet?) anti-aliased but the level itself clearly is. But it looks damn awesome...

of course it looks blocky, thats the textures pixels doing that, you cant help it, unless they were ultra high res textures
