#11812: changing defalt map

Hey all I'm new to the cube community and think the came/engine is really a great idea.

I do have 1 question though how do i change the default map from "metl4" when the game is started. I want to be able to have it load the current map im working on so i dont have to load my map through the console.

I have tried via autoexec.cfg and when cube starts its says its loading my custom map then after it finishes it loads "metl4".

What am i doing wrong?

What specifically are you doing in autoexec? The more we know about what you've done, the more we can help.

#11815: Adding Monsters

My son is learning how to use Cube2 engine. He has added many entities to his maps. When he tries to add a monster it shows the word monster on the map when in edit mode but when he puts it back into playing mode the monster is not there. If you exit back into edit mode it shows it as being there. What is he doing wrong. Any help greatly appreciated.

Dude, *read*. -lS is a command line option, meaning that you add it to the bat file that starts the game for you. Here's an example of what the file should contain:

bin\sauerbraten.exe -r -lbase/curvedm %1 %2 %3 %4 %5

Is that sufficiently clear?

It's probably because he put "-ls", like he did in hist post.

S is supposed to be replaced with your map, e.g. "-lmetl4".

From his posts, I think he's trying to do this by putting it in autoexec.cfg. If he put -ls in his bat, Sauer would have loaded just fine and dumped him in a newmap (unless he has a map named s.ogz), rather than saying "unknown command".

Just a note: though -lmetl4 works, isn't it better practice to include the foldername? I can think of several maps that were distributed in their own folders outside the /base folder (for example, the incredible Enterprise map), so just using the map name is a little bit misleading.

Hi, i have to do a 3d game for a school project. We can use a game engine, we dont have to do everything from scratch.

Can i create several maps based on my school and delete all the others?
Can i make changes to the game menus?
Can i disable edit mode?

It will still open as cube2, the name of the original authors will not be erased.

The engine code in src/ is zlib licensed, as are the .cfg files in the data/.

However, all the contents in packages/ is individually licensed by the authors who made it. Look for "readme.txt", "license.txt", or similar files in individual dirs within packages to see what is allowed for the nearby files - - for example "packages/lunaran/q4power.txt" or "packages/philipk/readme.txt". Some of them may be free for non-commercial uses or Creative Commons of some sort, which is presumably fine for a school project.

If you do not find an accompanying license description with some files, that means that the stuff is solely licensed for Sauerbraten to use only.

One of my brothers wrote a launcher for cube years ago: it would be a good place to start if you're willing to do it yourself.

Hi there i was thinking of using Cube 2 for one of my modules at university to demonstrate a concept. But i have a few questions I'd need to know the answer to:

1 - Can the music playing in the background of Cube be customised to a certain track (right now it seems random, I'm after it playing a specific mp3 file).

2 - Can the GUI and weapons be scripted/modded out so it's a first person shooter, without the shooter?

3 - Is it possible to change the characters of multiplayer models, or are they always ogre's?

Apologies if these are old questions, but a search did not reveal any previous askings!
