#11636: New Zealand server

by RandumKiwi on 02/06/2009 21:48

Hey guys.

I recently brought some VPS space to run some AssaultCube servers on (amongst other things), but I have A LOT of spare RAM/bandwidth, so, seeing as there are NO New Zealand servers, I have created a New Zealand sauerbraten server for you all.

/connect randumkiwi.co.nz

Enjoy. I won't be monitoring it much since I only touch sauerbraten every now and then (I'm an AC player, some of the maps for sauer lag my computer down, even with optimal settings). The client limit is 18.

Oh, and if you're feeling nostalgic, there's also a cube server running with a client limit of 8.

I believe that the VPS I'm running on might not be able to host all these servers that I'm running. I have closed the sauer/cube server. Sorry.

#11639: is it possible to convert a demo ?

by Younes on 02/07/2009 13:37

Hi everybody.
i was wondering if it was possible to convert a demo file to another version.
The problem is that each time i dowload a demo from the PSL and i try to load it,a message appears in the console:
demo \\\" name of the demo \\\" requires an older (or newer) version of sauerbraten.
Also, i wish to see my demos with the new character (snoutX10k).
So ..can you help me please ?

#11640: Selling a game made with Cube2

by Miki100 on 02/09/2009 23:14

Hi Everybody,
I\'ve just started checking out the cube2/Sauerbraten and am not sure to understand if a commercial game can be made using it. I know I can\'t use content provided with the Cube2/Sauerbraten to make a game but what if I use my own content (gfx, models, textures, ..)?
Anybody can shed some light for me please?
Thanks!
Cheers

You can make a commercial game with Cube 2 so long as: you replace all of the content with your own, and you abide by the Zlib license specified for the code as is written in the documentation.

Thanks eihrul! I am really starting to like Cube 2 and was affraid I'd need to change. The world editor runs fast and seems pretty straight forward. I've never used an engine/IDE like this before and I really look forward to creating something without the need to code or debug 100s of lines of code just to get a small piece of game on the screen. Once I start scripting and will have models to spare, I will do my best to give back to the community. Fingers crossed. Greets and thanks to everybody involved!

#11643: Interesting Engine

by Davaris on 02/10/2009 22:09

I\'m just about to download this one as I\'ve heard good things about it. One thing I want to know is if the source code is available and if it is in C++?

Also is it possible to add my own C++ functions to the scripts? I have already written my own game engine and would like to cut and paste some of my code into this one.

#11645: Mouse Stops working

by dwieeb on 02/10/2009 23:49

Hi I'm using an eeePC (laptop/ubuntu) to play this game and everything works great except once the game loads, the mouse just stops working. Then I have to ctrl-alt-del out of it. It happens every time.

Its very impressive. I tried it on my Vista machine and my older XP machine and it worked fine and fast on both.

I want to try and make an isometric demo with it, so I tried moving the camera up high in the air and there was almost no slow down. When I tried the same with the C4 Engine it almost ground to a halt. Kudos guys!

Now to look at the source code. :)

#11647: Change the 'Find Server' Menu

by Dude123 on 02/11/2009 19:24

So (as people probably know) when you click multiplayer then click 'find servers' a list of servers come up. How could I get rid of these servers and stop them coming up.

I still want to keep the multiplayer ability to find servers though. I just want my game to have its own server list if you get what I mean.

I know what I just said is a bit confusing but I hope you get the gist.

you would need to use another (read: your own) masterserver.

by MeatROme on 02/11/2009 21:26, refers to #11649

this is not possible, the version is an indicator of the used protocol - since changes in it will make the demo-stream unusable for any other version of cube2/sauerbraten .. you will need to use the exact same version of the game the demo was recorded with.
Replacing the player model with whatever you want in that version is no problem though ... but you won't be getting the ragdoll effects or stuff like that from the older version ... again - of course.

Yes, so long as you have proper OpenGL drivers installed.

I'm making a Sauer masterserver in Python, and have it responding to "retrieve.do?item=list" and "register.do?action=add" fine, but I was wondering, how would you check to see if the IP given has a Sauer server running? Is it a Sauer-server-specific thing?

The master server for sauerbraten doesn't check if the the ip pinging it has a server running or not. You don't really need to because how often will people be pinging register.do?action=add ?

If you really wanted to, its possible to ping a server and it should give you information like description, players, map name... everything that you see in the server list.

I thought the masterserver pinged the registering servers because it'll tell you when your server does not respond to ping.

Oh well, if it doesn't, that that means I'm done :)
