#11430: Where's my map?

by Chuckles on 11/15/2008 14:53

New mapper here. I've read tons of manuals, on and off-line, tutorial videos, and every "read me" file I can find, and I still have a simple question...

In which folder does Cube 2 save the maps that I'm creating?

I've searched everywhere I can think of, and can't find them - but they still load up every time I want to work on them. They must live somwhere...

/packages/base/MAPNAME.ogz

You can move them to their own folder if you want, such as /packages/enterprise/MAPNAME.ogz, but the catch is that then you have to type "/map enterprise/MAPNAME" rather than just "/map MAPNAME" (and no tab-based autocomplete either).

Tentus,

Thanx for your speedy reply. packages/base is the first place I looked for my maps and they are not there. I've searched every folder in the Sauerbraten folder, and I can't find them. I've done searches for mapnames, .ogz files, and even the dates that I worked on the maps, and still can't find them on any of my internal or external drives.

But I can still open and edit the maps every day. So they must be living somewhere.

Any ideas?

(Thanx again for your time!)

now OS information would help
for linux all files are saved in ~/.sauerbraten, on windows vista (and i'd assume XP), files I think are saved in your documents somewhere.
As usual, I don't know the OSX side of the equasion :P

In OSX, saved maps are in: username/Library/Application Support/sauerbraten/packages/base/...

This question is asked all the time. Perhaps we can get the exact locations for each OS and put them in the wiki/documentation?

Or we ask eihrul to do something nice like say what folder the map was saved into when you do a /savemap

Thank you all for your help. After reading your posts, I've re-searched all my drives and still nothing. The only thing I can think of is that Sauerbraten is naming the maps something other than what I'm naming them. Which seems to make little sense, but I have no other solution. Like I said, I keep opening the maps and working on them.

If anyone has a solution - or knows where I can find a solution - that would be awesome.

I'm running "Windows Vista Home Premium" with "Service Pack 1", if that helps.

I think Vista has some kind of silly security option that hides files. Maybe look into this.

Interesting... I happen to have an IT guru at my office. I'll see if I can challenge her intellect. Thanx!

#11442: New hudguns?

by Nixot on 11/16/2008 20:11

I want to find some MD2 hudguns for Cube 1. However, cube.dietmarpier.de is down and so I don't know where to look. Could someone point me in the right direction?

What do you mean, "actually play the game"? Use the server browser and join a server or play singleplayer...

the server doesn't actually need the maps, if you just intend to host a server, you just need the server executable, or the client executable launched with -d. just make sure UDP ports 28785 and 28786 are forwarded.

Additional maps are really never needed, sure they're nice, but the good ones will be in the next release... whenever that is :P

also if soemone wants to play a map you don't have, just get them to send it to you over coopedit.... as long as it uses the default config

#11448: Contributing code

by kripken on 11/18/2008 06:54

I wrote some code for Sauerbraten that I'd like to contribute to the project. Where should I do that?

The code lets you use particle effects as attachments to model bones, so you can have, say, a smoking gun, a flaming sword, etc. (Basically it defines a 'particle model' as a subclass of animmodel.)

Still cannot find my maps. I have tried your latest suggestion of :

"X:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Sauerbraten"

and that did not work. An IT friend of mine suggested that the application was saving my created maps on an online server somewhere, so I disconnected from the internet and could still open my created maps.

They are definitely on my hard drive somewhere. Any other suggestions from anyone?

Thanx!
