Sorry. Point taken.

And to SheeEttin:
Yes, an edit button would be helpful. And I took a look around SMF, and it looks pretty cool. I'm don't desperately want a new forum, but I think that it might be a change for the better, but the final decision is up to the people in charge.

It's definitely been discussed before. But whoever it was (aard/eihrul?) had an opinion basically consisting of "this forum does what we need it to do, and others are too bloated" or something like that. A nice, quick forum with a cool CAPTCHA for anon users is Phorum. The letters in the captcha are actually all made of periods that form the code in an ASCII-art-like style. It's a fast little forum that would probably be easy to integrate and doesn't come with a lot of bloat, but instead gives people the option to install extensions for whatever they need. It's kind of like Vanilla, but I prefer Phorum.

#10459: can i use this?

by Barbek on 05/01/2008 18:04

is it possible to use the Sauerbraten engine to make a 3rd person RPG,
me and a friend want to make one, prefurably in cel-shaded, i was wondering if this is the engine for us?

If you can write a shader that makes it look cel-shaded, then it's probably possible to use the C2 engine, most likely with Eisenstern rather than Sauerbraten.

Be aware that the Eisenstern project is still in development.

Be aware that if you want to have the black outlines that frequently come with cel shading, Sauer does not have any of the backface methods that are typically used to create that effect. You'll have to use the traditional brute-force method, which is to have a slightly scaled-up version of every model with the faces inverted and skinned black.

While typing command, start with the slash "/".
To re-bind [T] button, enter command:
/bind t [ saycommand ]
It should help

If you've got a good GPU then there are alternative funky ways of doing good outlines...
Since cel shading would probably require writing new shaders anyway, then you just output normal information and then use post processing (i.e. a fullscreenshader) that generates the outlines based discontinuities on attached 'normal' and 'depth' buffers. The bulk of the effort is rewriting the shaders rather than the extra code imho

#10464: outline

by Hirato Kirata on 05/02/2008 10:31

If he doesn't mind, he can always modify the code to allow /outline to work in any gamemode, and default to 1, but it's gonig to be a bit too fake as outline is meant to help mappers with fine details in tiny indistinguishable geometry

this is just an experiment... cubeengine.com gets a LOT of traffic, just having a look what that amounts to. It is not said that it is permanent.

Keep in mind, several visitors won't be seeing them at all...

I for a fact know I and Nieb won't ;)
and there's bound to be others with similar browser set ups to ours.

/me hugs firefox, noscript and adblock

I don't see them either. I have the same setup as you (except noscript).

#10470: sluggish Sauerbraten

by crich70 on 05/03/2008 21:19

Hi I'm new to Sauerbraten and game engine related topics in general and I'm having a confusing problem. If I move around in the map that comes up when the game starts I have no apparent problem, nor do I appear to have a problem in the edit mode, but if I enter one of the SP games I end up having my character be sluggish in his movements. Is there an easy way to sort out what the problem is? I'm running it on a computer with winXP and with a AMD Sepron Processor 3200+ (1790 mhz) and 768 mb ram.

or just look at your local "docs/" folder :)
Which SP-mode are you using - the slow-motion ones vary the gamespeed depending on your health.

I don't find the ads distracting or in poor taste at all. And I don't use adblockers; my cognitive dissonance serves me just fine. ;]

Actually it's when I try to access the games under the SP maps in general so far that I have the problem.
How do you find the default configuration file "defaults.cfg"? The docs say it's located in the "config" directory but is it in one of the folders or is it the file that's a "Microsoft office" file contained just within the main folder? I'm not even sure where to start looking for the file nor how to create the config.cfg file. Is it just a matter of creating a text file with that name? I'm a novice when it comes to doing such editing.

Not sure if it connected properly (had to try a few options to find how to connect since I have DSL rather than Lan and no local server) but things still seemed to be slow to respond in multiplayer as well.

Actually its more a matter of the character not moving at the same speed as when I move my mouse say. I move the mouse (to get the character to turn around) and it's a minute later that the character's view actually changes. The character takes a minute to try to fire his weapon after I push the button on the mouse as well. My computer has the Radeon Xpress 200 chipset (as near I can tell from system info.) and an ATI Radeon X300 GPU.

Specs:
* Four extreme parallel 3D rendering pixel pipelines
* Two programmable vertex shader pipelines
* PCI Express x16 lane native support
* 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface supporting 64MB, 128MB, or 256MB DDR1 memory configurations
* Full DirectX® 9 support
