#10444: Re: Feature or Bug ?

by KillHour_ on 04/29/2008 02:03, refers to #10438

If you're climbing up the lavafall when there's a jumppad RIGHT THERE, you're an idiot, sorry to say :P

...but if you're sorry to call ppl idiots, then why don't choose some more polite word? Then you don't have to be that sorry. Just a hint ;).

Hm. Wouldn't a jumppad at the bottom of a lava/waterfall be considered a "salmonpad" as it allows you to behave like a salmon in those nature films.

To add more spice to this subthread: the salmons do swim upstreams in the streams and past (small enough) waterfalls just for one single thing: to have sex with other salmons!

Concept for a new map named "Salmon party"? Every player has to get "upstreams" in some violent lava or water stream in order to, hm, interact with other players. Of course, that interaction will not be about reproduction but rather about mindless combat.

#10446: an important question

by smooth69 on 04/29/2008 20:16

hi,
sorry for the english-style. i'm german.

Why do you set this (e)-function behind the (w)-function [forward]?
i don't know the intention of (e). i don't need it. but in fight sometimes i press (e) instead of (w). and that the [beep] end of good way in a level.
in menue options i'm sure there is a possibility to change (e) in anywhere. very away of (w). But what is this (e)?

thanks for help

(e) is the key to enter/exit editmode.

Hmm... A central area, bounded by water(falls), playerstarts on the outside... Could be interesting!
I may make a map like that.

um... try this

/bind F1 (getbind E)

that'll transfer the bind of E to F1

I'm just making you type the getbind E part as I forgot if it was toggledit or edittoggle :D

but it doesn't get rid of E's binding, so now type

/bind E ""

too nullify whatever bind there was

and congrats, you can now press F1 to toggle editmode instead of E!

open up eisenstern.bat in a text editor and DELETE everything in it. then replace it with this

bin\sauerbraten.exe -grpg -r %1 %2 %3 %4 %5

if you're on Linux, just ./sauerbraten_unix -grpg

and if you're on OSX, I can't help you

Button: n, plural buttons.
Definition 2: A mechanical device meant to be pressed with a finger in order to open or close an electric circuit or to activate a mechanism.

Key: n, plural keys.
Definition 5: One of several small, usually square buttons on a typewriter or computer keyboard, most of which generally correspond to a particular character.

Please don't make such pointless posts. We are not here to argue semantics, we are trying to answer questions. My post answered his question as concisely as possible, your post was a waste and led me to also make this waste of a post. I should just censor us both. ¬_¬

Perhaps an edit function would be helpful...

Has anyone (i.e. the people(s) in charge of the forum) given any thought to implementing a "better" forum?

I personally would recommend a Simple Machines forum... It's a nice forum, and it's free and open-source.

Sorry. Point taken.

And to SheeEttin:
Yes, an edit button would be helpful. And I took a look around SMF, and it looks pretty cool. I'm don't desperately want a new forum, but I think that it might be a change for the better, but the final decision is up to the people in charge.

It's definitely been discussed before. But whoever it was (aard/eihrul?) had an opinion basically consisting of "this forum does what we need it to do, and others are too bloated" or something like that. A nice, quick forum with a cool CAPTCHA for anon users is Phorum. The letters in the captcha are actually all made of periods that form the code in an ASCII-art-like style. It's a fast little forum that would probably be easy to integrate and doesn't come with a lot of bloat, but instead gives people the option to install extensions for whatever they need. It's kind of like Vanilla, but I prefer Phorum.

#10459: can i use this?

is it possible to use the Sauerbraten engine to make a 3rd person RPG,
me and a friend want to make one, prefurably in cel-shaded, i was wondering if this is the engine for us?

If you can write a shader that makes it look cel-shaded, then it's probably possible to use the C2 engine, most likely with Eisenstern rather than Sauerbraten.

Be aware that the Eisenstern project is still in development.

#10461: Re: can i use this?

by tentus_ on 05/01/2008 19:10, refers to #10459

Be aware that if you want to have the black outlines that frequently come with cel shading, Sauer does not have any of the backface methods that are typically used to create that effect. You'll have to use the traditional brute-force method, which is to have a slightly scaled-up version of every model with the faces inverted and skinned black.

While typing command, start with the slash "/".
To re-bind [T] button, enter command:
/bind t [ saycommand ]
It should help
