#10201: Re: 2D Menu don't work

by Hirato Kirata on 03/05/2008 23:07, refers to #10200

Very well renown issue.

From my understanding (as I don't use windows) is due to older versions of gcc like 3.3, which have some nasty errors which is known to cause such problems.

so I'd recommend you install a nightly of codeblocks, and the very latest MinGW (I pretty much mean the testing/unstable stuff) and try again

eirhul posted this earlier:

"The version of GCC (3) that ships with mingw/codeblocks is horribly buggy. You either need to compile with VS or upgrade to the GCC 4 preview of msys if you don't want weird bugs to show up."

I posted this link to an easy-to-install version of the GCC 4 preview, which worked quite well for some of the guys:

#10203: Re: Dvorak Keyboard Layout

by SanHolo on 03/07/2008 17:00, refers to #10171

With OS X 10.4, I was used to switch to the British keyboard before playing. With OS X 10.5, Apple seems to have introduced something wonderful: I can start Sauerbraten (and other games) while Dvorak is active, but move with the WASD keys without assigning anything (so I play as if I switched to the British layout before starting the game).

And here comes the wonderful thing: As soon as I press T and begin to chat, Dvorak is active again! Wonderful! :)

#10205: MD3 Models And Software

by w$$a$elect on 03/09/2008 00:35

Hi all,

I've been looking around for good free or cheap software to create MD3 models. I'd like to try and make a new one for SB. I've found a bunch of different tools that looked promising but most did not allow the animation or at least export it on MD3.

Here's what I've already looked at, let me know if I missed something.

Milkshape - love this software but the export MD3 option does not seem to export the animations.

Misfit Model 3D - Also simple to use does great animation for MD2 but no MD3 support.

Blender - I really don't like the layout of this software.

Thanks for the help :)

Blender's cool. I think the XreaL MD3 scripts support animation, but I'm not sure.

by chunky549 on 03/09/2008 17:26

Okay.. I read in the tutorial about lighting.. But here's the thing. I don't actually know how to properly create lights and make them show..

Can someone point me to an in-depth guide on it, please?

Thanks in advance..

I don't think that there are any in-depth guides to lighting. However, it's not that hard to do.
Press escape, go to editing->ents->light, choose the properties, and hit newent light ...
Then type /calclight at the console.

XreaL looks like a game. I did not find any info. on tools unless they come with the download.

I also grabbed the CVS yesterday, I can see the nice new md5.h so I'll try and find a program that allows md5 animations.

XreaL is a game. But the developers made md3 import/export scripts for Blender that support animation. They come with the SVN, not sure if you can get them alone. Oh, and there are scripts for md5 that support animation too! ;-)

I downloaded Xreal and got the exporter. I does not seem to work, Blender gives the following error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 39, in <module>
ImportError: No module named textwrap

I have no idea if it's me or the exporter. Anyway I thought I'd let you know.

#10214: Fatal Error

by Somberfire on 03/09/2008 23:50

Hey everyone! A friend recently told me about Sauerbraten, so I downloaded it, and lo and behold, I can't run it. When I open the batch file, Sauer runs, up until it is done loading all of the components. I then get kicked out of fullscreen, and a fatal error message appears. The only way to get it to go away is to close the DOS prompt. Can anybody give me a hand? Thanks :] !

PS - I'm on Windows XP, by the way.

What's the error you're getting? I'm pretty sure the console will tell you the error.

The fatal error states: "Sauerbraten Win32 Exception: 0xc0000005 [0xd4]" ... I have no idea what this means.

Have you tried installing the patch? Also, please give us all the spec on your computer that you can, so we can address your problem more accurately.

You do have Python installed, don\'t you? Textwrap is a Python module not included with Blender.

#10220: cant start cube2...

by pizza_joe on 03/10/2008 03:09

sorry for the seemingly stupid question, but my sauerbraten was working fine a few months ago, i stopped playing then downloaded the new version and patch.

I try to start it up... and nothing happens...

When I double click sauerbraten.bat, a DOS window appears for a split second then disappears, same for all the .bat in this folder... and clicking the sauerbraten.exe in the bin folder doesnt work either.... I have no idea why, since it was working before.... anyone got an idea whats wrong?

thanks for any help
