#10131: Fonts are blurry

by Jan-Hendrik on 02/21/2008 19:36

Hello guys!
Cube runs nice and the graphics are great too, but: The font in the menu is blurry! I just can\\\'t read a thing.
I thought I had installed every package needed, but please come up with suggestions on how to fix this nevertheless!
I am using Ubuntu on a brand new Laptop capable of running most current games (in theory ;) )

Indeed - bilinear filtering and fonts do not mix. I'm assuming this is the basic problem, as it appears to be the familiar effect.

#10133: Scroll Wheel Problem

by Nytmayre on 02/21/2008 22:36

Hi, I am new to Cube 2 and these forums (hello), and I have started getting to grips with the game engine and the level editor today. I have seen the Youtube tutorial videos and messed around in the map editor, but I have stumbled upon an apparent problem.

For some reason, on menus, and in the editor (for example, when adding or deleting cubes using the scroll wheel), I find that I am fine scrolling forwards (to delete cubes or move forward when choosing a texture), but when I try to scroll back (to add a cube or raise the floor) it simply will not work. I have checked my mouse and there are no problems there, so I think there may be something wrong somewhere else.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and how can I solve it?

I am running Sauerbraten within the specifications on Windows Xp.

Thanks in advance,
Nytmayre

Thank you very much for this suggestion, but I could not find any option in the *.cfg-Files or the wiki :(
Sadly, I can't force ubuntu to use certain filtering methodes.
I don't use managers like compiz or beryl if that is of any use.
Is there a possibility to change the filter-behavior via xorg.conf?

check the exisiting cfg's for examples on anything you would like to do in your own maps ... the documentation explains a lot too ... see README.html in your installation-folder ... then there's the wiki http://cube.wikispaces.com and of course always the search function on this forum.
MovingTarget's example is for in-game use, in the map's CFG you can/should omit the leading "/" :)

#10138: How do I change the settings on Assault Cube?

by Mac987 on 02/24/2008 23:54

I just downloaded Assault Cube and the game has a horrible frame rate on my computer which makes it impossible to play. I a 900MHz celeron with 128MB or ram and a Intel(R)82810 Graphics Controller. I know that it sounds bad but I am pretty sure I can run the game. Why do I get such a low frame rate and what can I do to fix it. Also, how do I get into the settings?
Thanks.

Make sure you have opengl-drivers installed for your chipset.

MMM 8210 chip is low end update your drivers I am not sure how well cube 1x runs on the older Intel chips I would Expect fps in the range of 20-35 at 800x600 with that chip
I had a intel I810 once not a very good GPU for any kind of gameing :(

If you have a little $$ and really wanna play

you can pick up a 5XXX pci card for under 30 online I have also seen a 6200 that was PCI
at my local geek shop but a 5XXX would be your best bet due to the low endness of your system

does anyone have a list of the possible particle codes and what each code does?

The list above is incomplete. For an aid to creating particles, you might try this: http://www.quadropolis.us/node/1005

by Drakker__ on 02/25/2008 17:52, refers to #10130

I doubt there will be another release of Cube 1.

Check the packages list for your distro and check if you can find glibc5. You can have both glibc 5 and 6 installed at the same time. You might have to add other sources for older packages, though I have never used Arch, so I wouldn't know which ones.

Another option is to compile Cube 1 yourself, Last time I tried, it compiled just fine with glibc6.

What's your video card? Do you have similar problems in other games?

#10148: Assault Cube: turn off Antialiasing & Anisotropic Filtering?

by Mac987 on 02/25/2008 22:43

I updated my drivers & Assault Cube usually runs fine. Sometimes it does get a little laggy, so I read the ReadMe and it said to turn off Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering. How do I do this in Windows XP Professional Edition?
Thanks.

they should be off or at minimal levels in the first place. in sauer one would use /fsaa and /aniso to set them, while for assaault cube I would imagine they are the same.

In some cases people use driver based overrides to override AA and anisotropic filtering settings. so check that it's set to application default or 1.

#10150: I hate to ask this, but...

by tentus_ on 02/26/2008 01:49

Is there any way that the community can mass-request that someone get Jean Pierre'd, given that said someone is a detraction to the patience of the veterans and seriously misguiding/misinforming newcomers to the community?
